We are delighted to extend the GUN-X series with a second edition in partnership with HIDE Productions !

GUN-X is a series of releases that enlarge the processes of collaboration beyond the borders of the Global URL Nation. For each project in the series, members of the GUN community collaborate with members from another collective or label - exploring the results of cross-pollination and pooling across the global ecosystem of electronic music.

After an abrasive edition with Heel.zone in 2020, we’re happy to partner this time with the incredible multi-disciplinary collective HIDE Productions from Italy ! HIDE aims to connect artists by sharing resources such as sample packs, devices, types or 3D assets, in addition to delivering sharp and sizzling releases and audiovisual projects. Their dedication to provide high quality projects and resources over the years made it one of the most obvious choices to develop the series.

For the project, HIDE members SY/N, T.U. / Capiuz, Coeden & Leden cooked a pack of samples and M4L devices that were proposed to GUN members to make a track. 

AFGA06L, B E N N x Griigg, Cralias, Fungal Mat, jjjacob x P IT, Lukann, Nagruv, Sha Sha Kimbo x xato, & Talita Otović from the GUN community reinterpreted these to deliver a 10-track compilation that ranges from vaporous synthetic soundscapes to deafening growls, bitter hits and jarring noises. A caustic club material to handle with caution !

“I was born with empty hands and I will leave with empty hands", mom said.

Titled "Buông", the debut EP draws from a word dear to Anh Phi mother's heart, meaning “to let go” in Vietnamese, echoing resilience, impermanence, and the intergenerational dichotomy of both forced and privileged migrations. It was composed in constant transition across borders, East and West, underlaid by paradigm shifts and diasporic discourses. Anh Phi’s "Buông" is a visceral exploration, inward and outward.

Multilayered modern metropolises, primal tribal feels, global borderless club mutations, Nam Cát Tiên biosphere, cinematic plots, twists & cliffhangers… “OI” — timeline collapses, equanimity, transmutation, mess & order —, “Ạ” — memories lost in translation, testimonies, mother tongue & alien tongue, morphed bikes, organic arpeggio birds —, “()” — breaths, autonomous sensory meridian response, childhood reminiscence, body movements, play —, “Ừ” — soil, light, wind, bells, rite, propelling to space…

It all converges at the intersection of uncertainty and clarity, where no answer is given yet sparse ingredients are digested.
Systems and beliefs reset to the unknown.
Mining an unreal epoch.
In between spaces yet to be discovered.
Swarm of flying beings diving into new lights.

"Safeguarded, I'm Everything Beautiful" follows a tumultuous, dark yet rewarding journey into self-acceptance. Offering an introspective look into schizophrenia, the Portuguese musician Kmado combines, bends and breaks his musical roots and inspirations at will to convey an immersive and high-intensity experience.

Taking from witch house and shoegaze, navigating into hard dance and chiptune and borrowing flavors from emo and lofi, these genres, among many other sounds, all function as catharsis in some way throughout the album. From the introductory 2-part track "Someone Else Today" establishing the tone of the album through a brutal switch-up from a soft lofi guitar track into an explosive cathartic drop, to the emotionally-charged, anxiety-inducing gabber of "SP Superstar" onto the chaotic fusion of jungle, metal and hard dance of "Dream Weaver", and eventually ending on an eerily satisfying calmer note in "Infinite Light Beams All at Once", the record takes the listener onto Kmado's navigation of his headspace through more troubling mental episodes.

Approaching themes of medication, symptom masking, psychosis, suicidal tendencies, paranoia and dissociation, Kmado, through a healthy dose of distorted, auto-tuned vocals, recounts in retrospect some of his more troublesome times and experiences dealing with his mental illness, ending the record in a bittersweet tone of acceptance.
