People's Potential Unlimited (PPU) is a very special record label in DC known for discovering and reissuing some of the weirdest and best ultra-rare boogie, funk, and other dance music from the 70s, 80s, 90s as well as a new generation of beat-makers who draw inspiration from these strange worlds of sound.

Started by music fiend Andrew Morgan and operated out of his basement, PPU’s is a world that re-imagines funk as outsider art and cosmic-boogie as a modern variant of folk music. What would it be like if your school janitor made rap music in the broom closet or if someone in middle management still nursed a dream of being the next El Debarge? The label’s roster includes Robbie M., Dwight Sykes, Evans Pyramid, George Franklin Smallwood, Uku Kuut—names found on demo tapes abandoned to time, or else unearthed online. But PPU also pushes the present into the future. Newest members of the PPU family include DC favorite sons Beautiful Swimmers,  Dreamcastmoe, King Pari, PPU VHS Video mulcher Luke Wyatt, LA beathead Benedek, Vancouver space cadets Pender Street Steppers and Miami sound machine Mickey de Grand IV. There's a palpable scent of both mustiness and freshness to be found in all of PPU's grooves though, the smell of funk from a parallel dimension.

XTAL (pronounced “Crystal”)

Active since 1995, XTAL is a DJ and producer best known as one half of Traks Boys with k404 and resident of DK SOUND—a notorious rooftop rave pulsing above Kawasaki’s industrial skyline. He has also been active in several projects, including the band (((Ssssurrounddd))) with Jun Kamoda, a duo with Your Song Is Good guitarist Masatomo Yoshizawa, and a collaboration unit with dance-music producer Keita Sano, consistently releasing new material across these collaborations.

As a solo artist, XTAL released singles on Crue-L Records and Beats In Space Records before putting out his debut album Skygazer (2016, Crue-L Records), followed by Aburelu (2020, self-released on Cizima), and his third album EKO (2024, Kakubarhythm).

Grounded in club music yet free from stylistic boundaries, XTAL’s DJ sets and productions flexibly move between diverse genres and eras, revealing a sound that is both distinctive and timeless.

1995年からDJを開始。川崎工場地帯の某工場屋上にて行われているインダストリアル・レイブパーティー「DK SOUND」で、k404とのTraks BoysとしてレジデントDJを務める。Jun Kamodaとのバンド(((さらうんど)))、Your Song Is Goodのギタリスト吉澤成友とのユニット、ダンス・ミュージック・プロデューサーKeita Sanoとのユニットでも、精力的にリリースを重ねる。ソロとしては、〈Crue-L Records〉や〈Beats In Space Records〉からシングルをリリースした後、〈Crue-L Records〉からの1stアルバム『Skygazer』（2016年）、自主レーベル〈Cizima〉からの2ndアルバム『Aburelu』（2020年）に続き、〈カクバリズム〉より3rdアルバム『EKO』（2024年）をリリース。クラブ・ミュージックを基点に、多様なジャンルや時代を行き来するフレキシブルなプレイとプロダクションを展開している。

maa, Hamon Radio co-founder & sound director. In the late 90's, he started DJ activities while enjoying at Nishi Azabu "Yellow" every weekend. Based on the house style that he has cultivated over many years, his mix style, regardless of his genre, has gained good reputation from overseas radio stations. Currently running "Hamon Radio", he has a resident on the 3rd Friday of Cafe Après-midi.
