The Zanza Project celebrates the spirit of life. It’s an accumulation of feelings translated down into melodies and harmonies that reflect a particular view about the World and Space we music lovers occupy. If it is true that Music sets the soul free, then at its least, Zanza reinforces the theory in a very compelling way. It draws from all the share emotions on why we consider Music to be special and vital to our lives. 

The „Wonderland“ album is composed and produced by Jeff Mills,                               originally from  Detroit where he learned percussion and drums at an early age who became to be a world-renowned producer and figure of Techno Dance Music but who was  greatly inspired by the Jazz Rock Fusion, New Wave and   Industrial Body Music bands of the 1970 and 80s. We can see its influence in the  way he approaches Dance music today - the genre of music and form in which he’s  became and still remains highly noted for. Here, Mills clearly displays his skill as a composer/musician. A side of him where his wider understanding of music and how can speak to people is purposely exposed. Its safe to say that Zanza is the “total amount of” and even with the producer himself it would be valid to say that “Jeff Mills, the person we know as The Wizard, Underground Resistance and played so many pivotal roles in the history of Electronic Dance Music is in fact the “accumulation of”.  

The masterplan of it was and still remains to create a band, a collective mixture of Jazz, Latin Jazz and Electronic Music musicians under the moniker of Zanza. Which in Islam means “most beautiful”. The numeric reference: “22” refers to the year in which this new music is created and presented (2022: forthcoming “Wonderland LP”). In the album, you hear reflections of works by Sergio Mendes, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Pete Escovedo, Candido, Herbie Hancock, Larry Heard and waves to the genre of Acid Jazz. Live performances are a large part of the way compositions were created so that the players could learn, rehearse and translate the compositions in live presetnations. Throughout the album, it is not hard to hear how Mills displays more of his relationships with Jazz, Italo Disco, Samba, and his long, but discreet history with composing more structures works like classical arrangements and film soundtracks.

A series of genre-fluid EPs released between 2021 and 2024 caught the attention of StuBru, Radio 1, and Rinse FM, with praise from Focus Knack marking him as an artist to watch. Additionally he won the Cellini remix contest, hosted by Vi.be and Red Bull Elektropedia.

In his live performances, Maarten VX fuses concert-like storytelling with club energy. He has already made notable appearances at Ancienne Belgique’s Braindance XL, Campo Solar, Obscuur Festival, and other venues.

His 6th EP, Emotions Only We Know, is scheduled for May 16th.
