DEADBEAR is the moniker of Berlin-based producer and electronic musician Nick Donovan.
Donovan began experimenting with electronic music as part of a university 'laptop orchestra' and later making interactive software including being commissioned to build an app for CERN's Large Hadron Collider.
After 2017's ‘ The Trees are Dancing ’, 2019 sees DEADBEAR set to release a new artistic project and record ‘ World Music Market’. The release is a concept record tied wholly to Berlin, vinyl and the migration of people and music. All profits will be going directly to charity, specifically projects that help integrate refugees into Western communities and develop new skills.

The album, ‘World Music Market ’ (also released on 16th August) was written over the course of several months after amassing a stack of vintage ‘World Music’ vinyl from MY local Sunday flohmarkt. I would go to this one same stall every Sunday and pick up something incredible - discontinued runs of
Middle East compilations, Nubian region samplers, one hit wonders from Yemen. After a while it became clear this collection needed to become more than just a Sunday listening experience. I knew I had to make a record out of it. ‘World Music Market’ collides styles and samples from 11 vinyl records (most pressed in the 50s and 60s) and 14 different countries. Korean Court music sits alongside Tibetan Folk, Syrian dances and Sudanese prayer songs. Encapsulating the spirit of Berlin through the context of electronic music, celebrations of multiculturalism and migration of people to Berlin from all corners of the world, ‘ World Music Market’ is also a record that plays with set concepts of time and place.
Berlin is very much a place of coalescing cultures and coexisting, multiple temporalities and I wanted this record to give a real sense of those aspects. This project is not a vision of a multicultural utopia. Multiculturalism, just like the music on this record, juxtaposes multiple traditions, backgrounds and different
sacred, or secular, practices in one space. Sometimes it works, sometimes it jars and creates tension or unexpected artefacts but the experience is the richer for it - and the ‘picture’ one of greater depth and colour.
I wanted to challenge our constant search for authenticity - especially in cultural areas of our present times. Exoticness, Otherness, authenticity, these are things that are inherently amorphous and flawed and playing with those ideas has been a big part of this record.

Previous releases include 'The Trees are Dancing ’, a debut EP on Art is Hard Records, garnering critical acclaim from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, The Wire Magazine, Virgin, XFM and the NME. A follow up double single was released on Cascine's CSCN label featuring Japanese producer and singer Qrion - famed for her work with Ryan Hemsworth.

Tim Vitek is a visual artist, electronic music producer and audio engineer based in Chicago, IL.   

Vitek has been producing electronic music for the last two decades.  His first major remix was in 1997 for Cascade’s “Heaven In Your Eyes” on XDUB Recordings.  He later co-founded Digerati Music, which led to a production and distribution agreement with High Octane Recordings and Xylophone Jones Recordings in 2002.  Vitek was a definitive player in the 1990s Midwest Rave movement with his signature live sets.  Playing regularly for parties thrown by Pure and Vibeonauts, one of Vitek’s most notable accomplishments during that time was opening for Hardfloor during their US tour. 

Vitek opened his techno label Grid Based Beats in 2012 with the sole intent of releasing high quality, DJ friendly techno and premium sample packs.  Grid Based Beats has been supported by many top tier DJs including Perc, Ricardo Guarduno, Pfirter, Mark EG and Audio Injection. Vitek’s label has hosted releases and remixes from a number of underground and established artists. This includes Lester Fitzpatrick, Hiroko Yamamura, Frankie Vega, Brendon Moeller, Komprezzor, Axkan, Theodore Elektrik and Ryogo Yamamori.

Vitek has also released music and remixes on the following labels: UKR, Chicago Jaxxx, Format Recordings, Secre Techno and High Octane Recordings.

If this all wasn’t enough to keep him busy, Vitek is an established mastering engineer.  He’s mastered tracks for Luis Flores, Submerge, DJ Deeon, Axkan as well as world class Jazz artists like the Southland Jazz Ensemble.  Vitek has also taught audio production classes for Prairie State College and the SAE Institute.

Deadly D is a hip-hop act based out of Bellingham, WA. Lead emcee Stevey B puts on a live show backed by a band consisting of drums, bass, live DJ & female vocals. Together they provide a unique style of hip-hop infused with funk, soul, rock and blues.

  First established in 2011, Deadly D has played over 350 shows throughout the United States, Canada and even over seas in Vietnam and Thailand. With an exciting style and feel-good music with a message, they have shared the stage with the likes of Talib Kweli, Paul Wall, Nappy Roots, Del the Funky Homosapien, The Hieroglyphics, Gift of Gab, Zion I, The Grouch & Eligh, ¡MAYDAY!, Riff Raff, Dirt Nasty, Mickey Avalon, Lyrics Born and many more.

  Fresh off a recent tour of SE Asia, the award-winning group’s music has been compared to The Roots, Kendrick Lamar, Outkast, Atmosphere and Lupe Fiasco. Along with extensive independent touring, the band has appeared at festivals including Seattle Hempfest, Hard Rock Rising, Boeing’s ’16 Centennial, BrodieNation & Seattle Rock n’ Roll Marathon.

  In competition, they’ve made a name for themselves throughout the Pacific Northwest. Scoring second place in 2015’s Seattle Hard Rock Rising: Global Battle of the Bands competition, they bested more than 300 bands. They also won the Surprise Artist of the Year and were named one of the 8 Incredible Artist of the Year at The Write Reviews - Write Awards 2018 and in 2013 won Hip-Hop Duo of the Year at the International Music and Entertainment Awards (IMEAs), where the title track of their mixtape Light Side of the Moon was nominated for Hip-Hop Song of the Year. 

  Deadly D is slated to drop their next full length album “Til the Fight’s Finished” summer of 2019 and planning another US tour in the fall to support the projects release.
