DJ Rashad was and still is a legend.  Not only was he a Footwork and Juke pioneer but also one of the hardest working DJs and producers I've ever met.  The dude really never stopped working.  He was either globetrotting and spreading the sound of Chicago around the world or in the lab pushing himself to expand his sound further and further.  On April 26 2014 the world lost one of the most inspiring and talented artists of our time.  His spirit moves through Teklife, the dancers, his friends and everyone he has touched or influenced.

Over the past few years I've been lucky enough to collaborate with Rashad and even be remixed by him.  The tracks were never completely finished and seemed impossible to finish after he passed.  Eventually I mustered up enough courage to open the sessions and finish them.  It is what Rashad would have wanted me to do.  

"Movin' Forward" is a collection of those collaborations plus two exclusive unreleased Machinedrum tracks that were heavily inspired by Rashad and the Teklife crew.  I called it "Movin' Forward" because I know Rashad wants everyone he touched to keep pushing themselves and follow in his footsteps on the path he had been creating all these years.  I'm proud to have known him, shared the stage with him and to have collaborated with him.  May his sound and spirit continue to inspire and spread through everyones speakers!  Teklife to tha next life!!

Understand is the first track off of 'Movin' Forward',  out on Friday April 24th. 100% proceeds will go to his family and estate.

High On Hope MICROGLOBE X MACHINEDRUM

Nangdo's quaint flashes of footwork brilliance definitely deserve more earlobes. Boiler Room remembers his early dabbles with LA now-powerhouse, Soulection, that unlocked a higher-tempo pathway that only LAKIM could navigate as well. For the past few years, his Soundcloud his been a ripe sowing ground for tunes that mostly tick above 140BPM; stylistically unique, but still authentically bowing at the juke altar.

It wasn't going to be long before TAR head honcho and Brainfeeder disciple, PBDY, caught wind. High On Clouds, Nangdo's first outing on the enviably good imprint is heavy artillery. The Berlin producer doesn't hold back over the six tracks, regularly pasting together skittering hi-hats and well-chosen sample fragments atop a feverishly paced backdrop.

Track #3 is the clear standout here though. Angelic choir snippets, and pads that make you feel high af anyways. High on clouds, indeed.

“She Pick The Speed” features The Era’s lyricism on a new track by DJ Spinn. While on tour to Eaux Claire Festival in the summer of 2019, The Era Footwork Crew was invited by Bon Ivor to April Base Studios to do experimental work with a diverse group of artists on new material. Over the course of seven days, The Era participated in several studio sessions with DJ Spinn, Francis and The Lights, Mouse on Mars and performed select music from their previous projects at the festival.  During one of those sessions, DJ Spinn queued a beat on his MPC that sent a wave of energy throughout the room with a reverberating baseline prompting members of The Era to freestyle short bursts of lyrics about what was happening right in front of them. The track wasn’t finished until The Era returned back home to Chicago at a session inside of DJ Spinn’s studio. 

With COVID-19 sweeping the world the way it has, The Era felt this was the perfect time to release a song that helped  everyone take their minds off the pandemic for a moment.
