With always having been surrounded by different musical influences, the project Hephaistos tries to capture the raw essence of volatile emotions using a variety of approaches on techno itself. Shaping the time with heavy industrial, acidic and nostalgic rave sounds, Hephaistos is telling tales of suffering and anger as well as hope and love.

Non-Print label head and producer  Głós wants to create something outside of the conforming realm of Techno, and he showcases just that in this week's Global Vibe Radio mix. 

Głós has already reinvented his early work through his latest album, and his lucid yet on-point productions continue to reveal a rarefied character.

Głós has made a point out of not following the sometimes linear Techno patterns with his artistry. He comes from a band-focused rock environment and runs his own label, arranged to be a wildly experimental project. Głós (pronounced ‘Gwos’) is also in several ways a close contributor to the Ressort Imprint label, founded by fellow producer Ekserd, since its start in 2013, already then having left his native Poland to become a Berlin citizen. The label website informs you that ‘‘Ressort’ is a German synonym for a journalistic or administrative department’, and that their specific expertise is the dance floor. Ressort Imprint has released several of Głós’ productions and features other regulars such as Array Access, Border One and The Plant Worker—as well as remixes by Cassegrain, Evigt Mörker and Pfirter. 

Głós’ new platform, his very own label Non-Print, released his debut album ‘Fem’ in September 2018, marking the exact five year anniversary date of his first EP, ‘There Is No One Like You’ (Ressort Imprint, 2013). The producer describes it as ‘a collection of re-works as well as new material without any creative limitations’. ‘Fem’ is presented as one continuous mix—with each of the tracks being available in their own individual entity.

As a producer and performer, Głós’ background, which is a very hands-on analogue way of working—recording for example distorted keyboards and guitars—continues to influence his music. The industrial rawness of these elements are still present in his Techno, only now existing mantled by a softer drone and ambient-type of layer. Głós portrays cinematic scenes in his music. You are surely guided by the kick-drum, but the productions are spatial—distant rave signals and voices echo in a fantasy-like landscape. His live performances are often of a hybrid of his own work and others. 

The Techno here is pure Głós, but in various parts he manipulates selected Ambient pieces, making them his own for his distinctive shows. Again a situation where Głós’ live band-background plays a big part.

‘Music For Sleepovers’ and ‘Music For The Morning After’ are the Berliner's latest two albums with a playtime of about four hours that were released as a double-feature on Głós’ own Non-Print. Fresh off the press in 2020 is the latest EP ‘Psalms’ on Berlin-based imprint Escapism, featuring three of Głós’ more up-beat productions made for the dance floor.

For the past fifteen years Argentinian-born, Barcelona-based producer Pfirter has been pushing a sound by turns steely, dark and uplifting, true to the founding principles of the techno's tetramorph but eager to throw his own vanguard, personal touch into the mix.

From the early days onward, and no matter the medium of expression he's used, be it DJing, producing or as a label owner, Pfirter has kept working his magic with focus and style, gracing the likes of CLR, Figure and Stroboscopic Artefacts with some choice singles whilst headlining some of the most infamous electronic music bastions and events including Berghain, Tresor, Concrete, Awakenings and Time Warp. Ever since he embarked on his first European tour back in 2005, Juan Pablo has tirelessly worked at shaping one of the most idiosyncratic sounds in contemporary electronic music and successfully so.

Fully geared to withstand the test of time, his sound crucially combines the heavy thump of stadium-sized kicks with the kind of textured organic reliefs and hypnotic sub-bass motifs that a thousand listens couldn't make any less penetrating. 2006 saw the birth of his own imprint, MindTrip (whose name says it all), and that's become one of the brightest beacons in the ever-changing landscape of techno music; serving as both a landing platform of choice for his own output but also his close friends and collaborators' including Jonas Kopp, Stanislav Tolkachev, Dold, Fanon Flowers and more. In parallel, MindTrip also flourished through its monthly podcast series, welcoming the likes of Antigone, Markus Suckut, Milton Bradley, Pär Grindvik, Jeroen Search and a host more exciting and singular artists, all invited to present an hour of music that captures the spirit and values of MindTrip.

After releasing over fifty club-formatted records, time had come for Pfirter to take the leap with his debut full-length, 'The Empty Space', which provides a widescreen, panoramic view into the subtle intricacies and multi- level wealth of details of his craft, as well as the large spectrum of emotions his music merges and blends so organically. Deftly bridging the gap between the inner and the outer, the fierce and the collected, Pfirter's been collating pieces of work that may seem just as eloquent when taken aside, but whose impact reveals incredibly higher when taken as a whole. Not just piling up the pumpers, although his 12''s keep topping the specialized charts, Juan Pablo has proven that the depth of his compositions is not one to fade when the strobes go out, but that’s rather well tailored to haunt his listener's febrile mind long after the club's shut its doors. Darkness has rarely been so cozy.
