I don't remember Zoot that well, probably for the obvious reasons, but this is fantastic. If I bought this (and you added Ruth Underwood screaming) with FZ's name on it, I probably wouldn't kick. Great work.

Soundpaint has just released Dunescape 2.0, an update to the earlier version, so I had to try it out. With the exception of the soprano sax, all sounds are taken from Dunescape 2.0.

This is another one of those everything played at once single takes. Six plugins as follows:

• Soundpaint Tenor Sax Arc Long
My keyboard (Novation Launchkey 61 Mk2) has 16 pads in addition to the keyboard. I used them throughout in conjunction with the keyboard for this track. The end result sounded like some ne'erdowells up to no good.

Sneaky Bastards

I have a lot of plugins that I don't often use, such as Addictive Drums and Addictive Keys and thought I should give them a try out. I recorded the drum track first and considered stopping with that, but decided to record the piano. I then selected 5 Soundpaint virtual instruments (Adastra Chamber Strings; Baritone Sax; Clarinet; Tenor Sax; Soprano Sax) and recorded all five in a single take. Next I added the double bass to anchor the track as the drums don't give you much of a clue. Finally, I added the NI Kontakt Muted Trumpet to finish the track. A quick mix, master and Bob's your uncle.
The image reminds me of being a very young child in Greenock in the 1950s.The evidence of WWII was all around: bombed buildings still had not been demolished. Me and some of the other kids in the street used to climb into abandoned tenement buildings or play in the bomb craters in the hills. Fortunately, I had shoes.

No Shoes Blues

I recorded this track this morning (25-Apr-24) using only Soundpaint plugins. I had the track ready, but felt there was something missing, so I added the loud sound to the start. This gave me a mental image of someone arriving back from a tour of duty in some foreign land and gave me the title: Homecoming.

A little musical story in four parts:
• 1 - The Basstard comes knocking
• 2 - The Basstard is welcomed with open arms
• 3 - The family jewels are missing
• 4 - The Basstard is banished

The Basstard in question is Soundpaint's Basstard 2.0: a deconstructed double bass. This piece started out as a test of some of the Basstard's sounds, that then was expanded to this four part extravaganza.
All sounds are Sounpaint plugins with the exception of the Native Instruments' Stradavari violin.

Leave a man alone with a bag of mixed nuts and inevitably, he will start placing them in his mouth to look like teeth. Or is it just me? Almonds, if you are interested.
Following some major reconstruction in my backyard, I have spent the whole of May painting fences, gates, garage doors, carport roof timbers and rendered masonary, leaving no time for jazz. I finished today and have found the time to create this little ditty to go with my fine handsome, ageing gracefully,selfie.

Return Of The Jazz Fuckwits

An old friend from Scotland recently sent me a painting I made almost 50 years ago, part of which I have used for the track image. We were quite into fancy dress parties back then and generally went to our local pub fully kitted out on the way to the party.
In the fuller picture, the three "superheroes" are seen sitting in their alter-egos enjoying a pint and a cigar. That's me to the right: SuperIvan - Russia's version of Superman. We may have been ahead of our time.
As usual, this track has been put together totally at random, just to see where it goes. All the plugins used are by Soundpaint.

Everyone Is A Superhero

The image accompanying the track is the other half of the painting I posted with yesterday's track, showing me and two of my pals from Greenock in our local, The Firth Hotel circa 1977/8.
The track uses five different Soundpaint plugins and was put together quickly this evening (6-Jun-24). The lead instrument is an English Horn (Cor Anglais).

Three Friends

Ya dancer! is an expression of approval in Scotland. It's what I thought when I managed to add the bass and the brass section to almost match the crazy percussion. It has nothing to do with an embarrassing dad dance as the image shows, but it was the best match I could find.
All the pluins are Native Instruments Kontakt 7, just for a change.
