Monday, March 29th, is the official and long-anticipated Piano Day. What exactly is this annual worldwide event, and why is it special? Started only six years ago, in 2015, Piano Day began as an idea by the German pianist and composer Nils Frahm. Since the instrument has 88 keys, the “festivities” begin on the 88th day of the year, with many performances, exclusive releases, and workshops taking place around the globe. In the days of the current pandemic, many may find some solace in the online events, joined in by an extensive roster of artists ranging from contemporary classical to electronic music genres. 

There is much music to choose from – see the official schedule of all the events on painoday.org – and for this one lonely voice in a torrent of music, I decided to share a few of my favourite tracks, videos, and EPs. Check out the entire Piano Day feature on headphonecommute.com, meanwhile, enjoy this exclusive premiere of a longingly beautiful piece, titled "Inside" from Muriël Bostdorp's latest 4-track EP, coming out on Pianoramix imprint on April 2nd.

"This EP was written in the first period of the pandemic. I can remember the feeling I got the day we went into the first lockdown. It is difficult to describe in words, as I am not a writer or a poet. My words for these overwhelming emotions can be found within the pieces of this EP. Every track is a facet. ‘Save Me’ is not a cry for help, although it sounds like that. ‘Save Me’ is a call for hope – hope for different times, more self-conscious and new beginnings."

"No way back" is a piece for all refugees on this earth who have set out and do not look back, but courageously advance into a new, uncertain future. But at least in a future, in a future that they can shape themselves. A future where they can leave all the suffering behind and start anew. And yet, in many of these steps away from home, the melancholy of having left your own homeland resonates. Finally, there remains the hope of security, peace and inner peace.

Kein Weg zurück ist ein Stück für alle Geflüchteten auf dieser Erde, die sich aufgemacht haben und nicht zurückblicken, sondern mutig vorangehen in eine neue, ungewisse Zukunft. Aber immerhin in eine Zukunft, in eine Zukunft, die sie selbst gestalten können. Eine Zukunft, in der sie all das widerfahrene Leid zurücklassen können und neu beginnen. Und dennoch schwingt in vielen dieser Schritte weg von daheim die Wehmut mit, die eigene Heimat verlassen zu haben. Zuletzt bleibt die Hoffnung auf Sicherheit, Frieden und innere Ruhe.

Sunshine in the Park ist ein Stück, das die Sehnsucht nach den ersten warmen Tagen nach dem langen Winter einfängt. Sonnenhungrig zieht es die Menschen nach draußen und in die Parks der Stadt. Überall hört man lebhaftes Lachen und sieht fröhliche und entspannte Gesichter. Was ein bisschen Sonne zu zaubern vermag...

"Blue Dolphin" is a song written by New York pianist Stephen Schlaks and released in 1975. 
From the moment of its release and throughout the 80s, it was an extraordinary worldwide success.
Since I've practically always played it and am very attached to it, I thought to re-propose it in a more current piano style.
It was not easy to give it a new identity because the original version, faster and supported by other instruments, kept the listener's attention by alternating the theme from time to time between the strings, the piano, and the choirs.
I hope you enjoy it.

Abendstimmung im Dezember - Evening atmosphere in December

An instrumental odyssey through the infinite. *The Endless Symphony* translates the mathematical beauty of π into music — patterns without repetition, harmony without end. Each movement explores a facet of infinity: creation, balance, entropy, and return. Through orchestral textures, ambient electronics, and minimalist design, Avaline Ingels constructs a sonic architecture that feels both divine and human — precision guided by emotion.  
Piano, harp, and strings trace circular motifs while choirs breathe in golden ratios. Tempos shift by Fibonacci values, phrases extend by digits of π, and melodies evolve like galaxies forming. The album’s structure loops perfectly: the finale’s final drone blends into the prelude’s first chord, forming a seamless circle of sound.  
*The Endless Symphony* is not a story but a mirror of eternity — a composition that, like π itself, continues forever, revealing meaning only through motion.
