It is always a very special mood for me when the moon appears in the sky. I love the mild, golden yellow light in the dark blue of the approaching night. Especially when there is a full moon, it is a magical spectacle when the moon moves into view from behind the horizon.

An unabashedly classical improvisation about (maybe the last?) sunny days in Odessa. I used some elements of the Ukrainian national anthem

“Bells and Hymns” is a transcendent blend of reverence and resonance — a composition that feels like a meditation between the sacred and the secular. It’s a piece steeped in atmosphere, one that evokes the echo of cathedrals and open skies while staying rooted in Archer 23’s signature electronic sophistication.

From the opening moments, the soundscape feels ceremonial. Soft choral pads and resonant bell tones intertwine, establishing a mood of solemn beauty. The rhythm enters gently, more like a procession than a pulse, giving the track an organic sense of space and gravity. Each chime lingers, its decay folding into the next phrase like memory into time.

Archer 23’s production choices here are quietly stunning. The bells shimmer with clarity, while ambient layers build a sense of spiritual ascent — not religious per se, but deeply contemplative. Subtle harmonic shifts hint at tension and release, mirroring the emotional duality between faith and doubt, tradition and transformation.

As the piece evolves, it begins to feel like both a prayer and a requiem — a dialogue between past and present selves. The hymnal influence never feels heavy-handed; instead, it’s filtered through modern textures that bring timeless emotion into a new context. By the end, the final tones fade like distant echoes in a vast hall, leaving behind a sense of peace tinged with wonder.  Ethereal, introspective, and deeply moving — Bells and Hymns is Archer 23 at his most spiritual and refined, turning sound into sanctuary and reflection into resonance.

The Dance of Zalongo
June 2018
During the Souliote War in Greece, December 1803, the Souliotes began evacuating Souli after their defeat by the forces of the local Ottoman-Albanian ruler, Ali Pasha. During the evacuation, a small group of about 60 Souliot women and their children were trapped by Ali's troops in the mountains of Zalongo in Epirus. In order to avoid capture and enslavement, the women threw their children first and then themselves off a steep cliff, committing suicide.  According to the legend, they jumped down the precipice one after the other while singing and dancing. 
The name, Dance of Zalango, also refers to a popular Greek dance-song commemorating the event.  I was moved by the story and the dance song to create this music.
