Madam Curie was founded by Christer Andresen (guitars and vocals) and Kjell Vidar Merkesdal (drums) in 1988 in Aurland, Norway. Throughout the 1990s the band made its mark on the Western Norway music scene, and released its first album Soul Insider in 1997. Ultimately, Madam Curie broke up during the attempt to make a follow-up album in 1998 to 1999.

Andresen and Merkesdal subsequently formed Alien Love Gardeners in 2000. Kjell Vidar switched to bass for this project, and the line-up included his brother Inge Andreas Merkesdal (drums) and Christer’s musical partner Arild Aardalen (synthesizers). The band recorded and released the EP Cuts Shape the Man in late 2000. When Alien Love Gardeners broke up in 2002, Andresen and Aardalen re-worked some of the material into a studio project called Keld, which would soon morph into the symphonic metal known as Keldian.

Many years later, Andresen and Merkesdal are now resurrecting Madam Curie with the brand new album Liberate Ignis, scheduled for release in September 2025.
