"Craquages Collectifs is the crazy project of the three troublemakers ergen101, Meli Mena and BisouBisou, which aims to help the victims of the 'metro-work-dodo' system by creating spaces where they can freely express everything that everyday life prevents them from letting out. Driven by a mad ambition to establish themselves as key players on the Parisian Bass and Break scene, they called on a hand-picked selection of the scene's flourishing artists for their very first Various Artist. Here’s french DJ et producer RAVL’s take on this 

In January 2023, the village of Lützerath in Germany was occupied by activists protesting against the expansion of a local coal mine. From the beginning of the movement, the infamous police watchdogs arrived to try to interrupt it. But they didn't expect the grand arrival of the Mud Wizard, who, like Gandalf the White arriving on the seventh day in the East, would change the course of the battle. 

This track, while primarily paying homage to this courageous sorcerer, also attempts to musically translate the events of that glorious day. The voice of the wizard rises gradually, disregarding the muddy synthesizers and transforming them into devastating spells, soaring above a chaotic terrain and striking their targets with thunderous percussion. 

In this muddy jungle, you will find yourself dancing skillfully above the clumsy and bewildered pigs, lost in the subs, and you will look down upon them, saying: "You have no power here.""

[Premiere] RAVL - Mud Wizard (out on Craquages Collectifs)

Gimme A Break Records have proudly announced their first release of 2024, teaming up with London-based producer An Avrin to deliver his “Spelunkerer” EP, a collection of mind-boggling leftfield-club productions accompanied by an equally spectacular remix from Leeds-based Stolen Velour. With previous releases on Scuffed Recordings, Slippery Sounds and Erbium Records, An Avrin has developed an unmistakably unique production style characterised by clean sampling, intricate detail, heavy bass and contorting rhythms. Alongside his highly-acclaimed label releases, An Avrin has also garnered substantial attention from the underground club scene through his self-releases and edits, with his flip of Darude’s “Sandstorm” dominating the summer DJ circuit in 2023.

An Avrin once again showcases his inventive production on GABD014. “Cobbert Webb” kickstarts the EP with a monstrous collision of rolling breakbeats and growling basslines, interspersed with Baile-influenced rhythms which only add to the track’s dramatic tension. An Avrin firmly puts his stamp on the modern Electro sound via the EP’s title-track, swiftly followed by the eclectic “Bup” which fuses Techno and Electro drum programming with Grime vocal samples. Following a deceptively innocent introduction, “Conduit” descends into a raucous leftfield take on the Breakbeat / UKG crossover style that has dominated the UK’s underground club scene in recent times. Stolen Velour closes out GABD014 with a spectacular remix of the EP’s title-track. In line with An Avrin’s own disregard for genre boundaries, the Leeds-based producer fuses UK Funky rhythms with Grime bass patches to perfectly complement the diverse sonic palette demonstrated across the EP.

PREMIERE | RAVL - Gravitational Beam Emitter [Cane Corso]

GB's debut album, Gusse Music, emerges as a collaged symphony of experimental music with a pop sensibility. Its makeshift compositions, stretched out to linger in memory, offers a 33-minute textural plunge into the melancholy of the infinite – shadowed by loneliness yet illuminated by glimpses of light, a longing for the memories ahead.

Tracks bleed into each other, like videos in a feed, momentarily grabbing the listener's attention only to be forgotten again shortly after. However, in the constant stream of impressions, GB patiently strives to inspire new thoughts and conjure an image, quaint and affectionate. 

From the sludged electric guitars and hypnotic baritone vocals of the opening track "FACETIME," to a solemn, almost Wicker Man-esque, acoustic instrumentation on "CONCRETE CITY," to stoned-out beats and rolling bass on "NEW PLANES”. Gusse Music evokes a world of music that is both welcoming and fun, hauntingly desolate, dark, and gritty.
