"Welcome to a special hour of music with me, #PatrickDSP on #RTÉ #2FM.
I’ve been DJ’ing professionally world-wide for almost 25 years now, and I’ve build up number of great and interesting experiences with music and music related people in that time. When I was giving the task to record a set no faster than 130bpm of influential tracks by my good friends at Gobsmacked Records. I gladly accepted, not being one to back down from a challenge, since it gives me yet another way to tell a story with music. Which is why I started Djing in the first place.
So, here’s my ultra condensed retrospective look on electronic music. Some of the songs selected are seminal tracks, while others were chosen primarily because of the artist themselves and their influence on electronic music.
From synth pioneers like #DepecheMode, and #NewOrder. We’ll explore the Acid house origins of #Orbital, #StevieV, and #S-Express.
Explore the some of my rebellious teen industrial roots with the electronic distortions of #SkinnyPuppy, and #NitzerEbb and even my early days of dj’ing ambient techno with tracks from #808State, #YMO, and #BancoDeGaia.
Of course we have Detroit Techno Pioneers: #JeffMills, #DerrickMay, #Drexciya, #UndergroundResistance, and even my fellow Canadian #RitchieHawtin.
Last but not least, Techno Stalwarts: #TheFutureSoundofLondon, #TheChemicalBrothers, #TheBritishMurderBoys and #LukeSlater. I’ve done my best to cram as much as I could into such a minuscule time frame.
