'The Endless Tape Machine' - a monthly live radio show at Cashmere Radio curated by Magïc Müllï and Mad Lubi. Inspired by the analogue tape machines we used to push our first tapes back and forth many years ago.  

We explore music history from then to now, around the globe:
From occult sounds to the avant-garde, from exotic adventures to political statements, from cotton field blues of the 20s to acid house of the 90s. 
Each episode is dedicated to a theme, an artist, a country, a current, a label, a style, a word....

Calypso is the music of the Caribbean carnival, whose history dates back to the 18th century. Spanish colonial powers brought their form of carnival, European musical influence and African slaves to the Caribbean islands. As the slaves were excluded from the celebrations of the European settlers, they established their own carnival.  Calypso emerged from the musical fusion of Caribbean battle songs, European musical elements and the slaves' political and social expression of opinion.

In this label special, we are focussing on releases from the Jazz and Rhythm ‘n’ Blues label Cadet Records. A sub-label of the independent label Chess Records from Chicago. Founded in the 1950s, Chess Records set the trend for the development of Rhythm and Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll and is still one of the most important Blues labels today. The success of the label and its sub-labels is due to the fact that they signed musicians and released records that were not the focus of the major labels. They thus offered the artists a space for free musical development. Among the main protagonists who have released on Cadet Records are Ahmad Jamal, James Moody, Dorothy Ashby, Ramsey Lewis, Rotary Connection and many others.
