Taran & Lomov's "Riga Bay, Pt. 1" EP marks their return to their very own Amber Muse label, presenting a release consciously divided into two complementary halves. This structure allows the skilled Latvian duo to explore a wider emotional and functional range, creating a listening experience that moves from communal energy to introspective reflection. The parcel feels like a natural yet ambitious progression in their catalogue, demonstrating a clear intent to communicate with listeners across different settings.  

Premiered here, the Queer On Acid remix of "Drifter" hijacks the original's atmosphere and steers it toward a sweatier, more urgent destination. A squelching helix of acid twists its way through the heart of the track, forging a driving rhythm built for peak-time moments. This rework sheds the introspective layers, instead forging a raw and physical tool that commands the body to move. The result is a relentless Techno cut, both functional and fierce in its execution.

Jakarta-based post-punk trio Of Wax follows up their first EP with double singles “Severity” and “Crows”. Staying true to the fantasy universe they have built in their 2024 release “Tribes”, the two tracks convey the vision of a fictional landscape, located neither in the distant future nor the past. The aesthetics and lyrical motifs of the songs are borrowed from Italian giallo movies of the 1960s and 1970s, reflecting a desire for a world that may or may not have existed.

The creation of “Severity” and “Crows” involved arpeggiated vintage synthesizers, drum machines, and layers of heavily reverbed and modulated guitars. This deliberate borrowing from cinematic soundscapes reflects the band's fascination with a world that is at once glamorous and menacing, conveying a collective yearning for a stylish, anachronistic reality.

"Severity" is a cold, driving anthem of stark consequences, driven by a motorik chant and arpeggiated synths. In contrast, "Crows" leans into the edgier elements of the band's post-punk influences, utilizing deep, echoing vocal delays and expansive reverbs to paint a picture of an ominous, shadowed urban environment within their fictional world.
