créé par le claviériste, pianiste et corniste Romain Thorel.

Fort de ses expériences de groupes et de scènes, il propose une musique sensible et dépouillée faisant la part belle au piano, son premier amour, avec des mélodies simples, envoûtantes et oniriques.

Romain Thorel has been working with bands for years. He also plays the French horn and keyboards on his own way, creating a unique experience with every live show.

This artist is open to various art forms, ephemeral performances, live improvisation and artistic collaborations to make his music come alive.

Après des études académiques précoces au CNSMD de Paris, Noémi Boutin, dont la carrière est promise aux grands concertos, emprunte des chemins singuliers, passionnée d’aventures artistiques inédites. 
Elle « violoncelle » seule, en musique de chambre (Quatuor Béla), joue du répertoire comme des musiques d’aujourd’hui (Daniel D’Adamo, Frédéric Pattar, Misato Mochizuki, Aurélien Dumont, Frédéric Aurier, Antoine Arnera, Eve Risser, Oxana Omelchuk, Magic Malik...) et aime à s’associer sur scène avec circassiens (Jörg Müller), comédiens (Pierre Meunier), musicien-nes (Fantazio, Benjamin Colin, Mayu Sato, Sylvaine Hélary…) et depuis peu, cuisinier (Emmanuel Perrodin). Elle cultive un goût certain pour les dérapages et les pas-de-côté et aime à manier les mots lorsqu’ils se font absurdes ou poétiques.

In 2011 KING independently released their first EP to much acclaim;  title track “The Story,” (featured on GLAMOUR‘s Top Songs Playlist), “Supernatural” (NPR's Song of the Day) and “Hey” (featured in 2014 motion picture ‘About Last Night’) make up the 3-piece introduction to their carefully crafted future-soul sound. Hours after the release, their EP had traveled far to music lovers and tastemakers alike, trending on Twitter and making new fans of many. KING have since been preparing their debut full-length album due for release Summer 2014 and are excited to invite their listeners further into their sound. The album will also include the ethereal romance “In The Meantime” (Top 2013 Pick by NPR, The Guardian UK, and Buzzbands LA). 

KING’s smooth vibe, intricate production and harmonic style evolved beautifully in their home studio, a product solely of the three women. Paris produces KING’s songs, while Amber and Anita are the primary singers. The three work together on songwriting and vocal arrangements to create own their very uniquely soulful sound.

Citing influences ranging from a myriad of genres, KING’s eclectic sound is both relatable yet not simply defined. Though their cross-genre sound plays with the boundaries of their varied influences, maintained throughout each of their compositions is the common thread of a certain soulful authenticity. From Ebony Magazine: “KING bypasses the impulse to categorize musicians into a singular box by falling somewhere in the utopian realm of nostalgic R&B, futuristic soul and folksy-bluesy jazz." Add to that their electronic, new wave and downtempo tastes, their penchant for storytelling and their exceptional ability to blend 3 voices and perspectives- and the result is a melting pot of music that harks to an earlier time of unbridled exploration and creativity. From Okayplayer: "It’s not hard to tell what all the fuss is about; sophisticated pop harmonies that would seem more appropriate to past-masters than newcomers–yet never feel anything less than breezily accessible, mostly because of a certain emotional purity to the songwriting. The ladies of KING are just as refreshingly pleasant as their recordings...this just seems to confirm the eerie suspicion that though only two are blood-sisters, all three are spiritual triplets."

CHIEF is a dynamic beatmaker, his music has been best described as filling the gap between classic beatmaking and forward thinking production. He's well known both for his solo work and for producing the cream of the cream of both confirmed and upcoming rappers/singers such as Aloe Blacc, Moka Only, Blu, Co$$, Johaz, Georgia Anne Muldrow, John Robinson, Kissey Asplund, Dynas, Marc Mac, Les Nubians, Kenn Starr, Tajai or Abstract Rude to name but a few.

2015 / 2016, Chief released more successful projects, such as the « We The Prolific » album with John Robinson and the free download project « Echo Chamber », toured in the US, South Africa and Europe, shared the stage with Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke, Gilles Peterson, Mala, Lefto, MF Doom, Gaslamp Killer,  Peanut Butter Wolf, Dam Funk, Moka Only, BLU, and more.

Chief was a Dj guest on BBC Radio for Gilles Peterson, NTS Radio, Rinse FM, Studio Brussels, Brooklyn Radio and more.
