Now, as I get older, my perspective matures, and my music reflects that journey. It is no longer just sound—it’s a collection of masterpieces of art sensation for your little ears. I have been making instrumentals since late 2004 on and off. I Primarily use a MPC 1000 to sequence on. My instrumentals can be rapped on I guess but they are mainly for video  soundtracks. I listen to all types of music to include Rock,Electronica and Classical. They all influence the sounds of my beats. I played trumpet in a concert band for about 5 years which gave me a bit of experience of reading music and composing. Much of my projects have been started while in Iraq in the middle of a war zone. The songwriter and producer of pop, hip hop and R&B known as Mae Scott has proudly published many impressive independent releases without the involvement of the corporate music industry on the Mae Scott record label.

Mae Scott is from a small town in Pennsylvania called Pittsburgh, PA and as a student in middle school she competed in the infamous talent show and pep rallies every year. Where she grew up middle school students would practice all year for one talent show and one pep rally. They would wear matching outfits and perform elaborate outrageous dance performances or rap or sing. She was also captain of the local drill team “Human Nature”. Every year they would march in the local Parades and Downtown Pittsburgh Parades.

Mae was part of a very talented community of artists. The artists from every school would drop music and try to compete with one-another. This is where she initially learned about the music industry. The local Record shop was also run by her neighbor whom were good friends with her family. It was through the shop that she got to meet many celebrities and artists long before anybody else knew about them. Mae would call them and ask if anyone was hanging around and would put on her favorite track suit and run down to the shop. This is where her curiosity with the music industry began. In the past, she cited influences such as Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa, Kendrick Lamar, Aaliyah, and R Kelly. Asking her today brings a different response, however.

“Honestly, I grew up in that MTV era where music videos were everything,” she writes, “but I also grew up on indie music videos, as well, by lesser known channels. Anything that was hot probably influenced me at some point while I was discovering myself. I’m focused now.”

That focus comes from living in a larger world than many people live in. A veteran of the US Army, Mae Scott served a tour in the war in Iraq before attending college and later Law School where she started her first indie label, Academy Rhyme Time, by turning the Hip hop club into a full fledged music label. She performed as a cheerleader for the Atlanta Falcons while she continued honing her music career. To date, she has already been nominated for a Grammy Award twice.

“My message tells people to find what their culture is,” says Mae Scott, “or what they want it to be personally, then go create that.”

This artistic integrity runs throughout her style. She has written songs and produced for other artists as early as 2006 where she started song arranging and producing for independent gospel rap groups. She has been recording and producing music ever since. Mae Scott has organically grown a following that continues to inspire her music today. She credits her fans as the reason why she gets better.

She has also collaborated and been apart of many local projects and is currently working on her first major Hip Hop album, Independently. Mae Scott is a multi-genre multi-talented Music Artist, Songwriter, &Producer.

Mae has taken the time to learn various art forms to add to her resume. Her many different styles of writing led to the creation of her infamously known pen name Mae Majesty.
