Steyoyoke Recordings are well known for their constant innovation and this new project arrives with much excitement. ‘Steyoyoke Black Reconstructed’ is designed to enable artists to delve into past Steyoyoke Black releases and rework them with their own personal touch. First up are Animal Picnic, who revisit two memorable tracks, Dahu’s ‘Ruin’ and Nick Devon’s ‘Don’t Be Afraid’.

Animal Picnic’s rendition of ‘Ruin’ maintains a perpetual vibe, which is derived directly from the original. Right from the get go, the bass line settles into an unyielding rhythm, bountiful of techno grooves and tough percussion. The breakdown then allows for the underlying melody to briefly shine through, before succumbing to its previous momentum.

Splicing the old with the new, this version of ‘Don’t Be Afraid’ establishes a more subtle build of intensity. The mood is set with an eerie presence and heightened with severe yet passionate chord changes that embellish the entire track. The echoing vocals from Benji also empower this remix, ascertaining an audio delight of malicious beauty.

The 'Alarm The Sound' EP will feature the title track and a killer set of remixes from the likes of Dirty Channels, Francesco Bonora & Marcello Arletti and John Tejada.

We've got the premiere of Tejada's edit and this one is aimed firmly at the warehouse. His re-imagining features giant piano chords, outrageous low-end rumbles and claps that bring a whole lotta groove. It's a track that when dropped at 4am would do serious damage. Check it.

Tel Aviv’s Red Axes are one of the most exciting new acts in dance music, with rich sound that is musical, deep, trippy and organic, while remaining precise and lethally effective in the club. The range in their sound is impressive, their talent unmistakeable. They are one of our favourite artists of the year, and this latest record is one of their best yet.

Lead track 'Waiting for a Surprise’ builds around a mid-tempo disco bassline, with tough percussion, and rugged synth stabs, but it’s the eerie and unique sounding vocals of Brazilian collaborator Abrao that bring everything together. This one is a guaranteed bomb for building up, tearing down, peak time or chilling out… an outstanding track in every sense, the kind that force trainspotters to the DJ booth to discover what’s playing. Next up, ‘Hope’ kicks off with resonant, delayed toms, adding a haunting howl and synths before dropping into a wild, clanging, carnivalesque frenzy. It’s understated, but advanced, with an interesting arrangement that really opens up in the second half. Finally, 'The Metal Bender’ slows the tempo but ups the vibe into an elated, slow-burning space-disco anthem. Fantastic stuff!

Ripperton - Ordine Gigante  (Full Version)

This offering by Berlin-based, world-influenced label Disco Halal presents three tracks that 
result from the collaboration between the Brazilian DJs and producers Selvagem and Carrot 
Green (who combine releases on BIS Inc, Universal Cave, Hello Sailor, Barefoot Beats, 
Brazilian Shakedown and Magic Movement). Exploring local melodies from the 60’s and 70’s, 
they built tracks that turn those sounds in some sort of exotic techno beasts, only with that 
tropical flavor. This black magic-blessed EP opens up with Ossain’s killer strings, psyched-out 
vocals and percussive breakdowns, followed by Dengo, a slow burner based on a candomble 
chant that, along with the flute, cowbell, and clapping, puts the audience into a spell.The B-side 
brings Vandre, a throbbing 126-bpm track carried by a lovely guitar and singalong vocals by one 
of Brazil’s most iconic protest singer. The package is complete with the remix by the ever 
growing italian duo Marvin & Guy, who kept the hypnotic aura with their lush minimal sounds. A 
crossover release hard to pin down, but all around.
