"Cre8Dnb are already beginning to build their plans for the New Year. They’ve always had a diverse roster, but they’re looking to expand their scope, something which will only bring more creativity into the label. The next artist to feature on the imprint, run by none other than DJ supreme Blackley, is from Magenta, an artist hailing from the Czech Republic. The country has been renowned for its drum & bass roots, paving the way for many artists to make their place within the wider scene and also being a hotspot for fans of the subgenre. Its clubs have proved a breeding ground for likeminded producers as well as being a place in which Cre8Dnb newcomer Magenta has found his inspiration. However this won’t be the first release you’ll see from the artist on Cre8Dnb. He’ll be joining their Cre8#Singles series next year, with more in the pipeline as the label continues its expansion. 

The four-track ‘Break’ EP from Magenta, forthcoming on Cre8Dnb gives an insight into what he represents. He focuses on the type of nastily grinding sounds which make the Cre8Dnb roster so recognisable, but it also features a diversity which makes Magenta such an imperative artist. ‘Break’ is the first record you’re introduced to, with 80s vibes slowly drawing you into its first drop. ‘DJ’ has a jazzier note, with its fragrant instrumentals – but don’t be fooled, you’re still pushed through Magenta’s chaotic sonic waves. ‘Addiction’ ploughs through with peaking, metallic flutes. It has a hook which cuts through each segment, giving it a jauntier feel as it begins to breakdown. ‘New Day’ comes last, with an old-school underpinned sample, presenting a call to arms which then throws you down a chasm of grating drums and warbling LFOs. There’s a flare of musicality stretched throughout the EP’s entirety, however each track still presents a cutting edge which is becoming a moniker for Magenta. 

Magenta’s audience is beginning to grow. With more to come from the producer and his new found home, it’s another exciting move towards a career which is set to flourish over the next twelve months."

"The next release to be dropped from the Cre8Dnb camp comes from Magenta, an artist who’s already caused chaotic scenes after he unleashed his ‘Break EP’ on the imprint earlier in his career. And it kicks off 2019 at a dizzying pace, featuring as the twelfth part of their project which has already received support from the likes of Noisia, Mampi Swift, Danny Byrd, Rene LaVice, Tyke, Nicky Blackmarket, Konichi, Kenny Ken and more like-minded individuals. Although as a producer whose musical base stems from the Czech Republic, it was to be expected that his sounds would not only be extremely well-engineered, but also filled with energy and the ability to create catastrophic effects on worldwide dancefloors.

The title-track ‘Black Dragon’ is exactly what you’d imagine from a Magenta track. It creates a theme for the EP, one which stretches from its beginning to end. It’s growling bassline, one which fluctuates between a few low-end notes, carries it through each crashing drum segment. Breaks sit moodily within its composition, honing the tracks grooves. ‘Mover’ is daintier in its introduction however it still pushes through into a rattling bassline and slamming metallic percussive patches. ‘Get Out’ is your next reminder of Magenta’s power. As soon as the record begins to play, you know what you’re about to be let in for. And it’s a track which has its hooks firmly grabbed into your synapses; braying note patterns and stabbing bass notes take you into a murky undergrowth of sounds. The last part of Magenta’s EP is ‘Totem’, a track which is tribal in its thumping elements yet begins with an uplifting intro. However, you’re still left to be dragged into what will eventually be an explosion of beats, one given an ominous twist through vocal samples that weave in and out of its mix. ‘Totem’ isn’t afraid to let you know where it’s heading; artist like Magenta fit perfectly within the home of Cre8Dnb. 

Heralded by DJ Blackley, who’s built Cre8Dnb from the ground, the roster of artists who sit within their ranks proves why the label are becoming such a beacon within drum & bass."
