This time round we're in the studio with Vita D who's bringing us cosmic sounds, balearic jams and hard hitting groovers.

We first met Vita D out in Hanoi where we DJ’d at the super cool and crafty club called Savage run by our good friend Ouissam. Ever since then Max has been running parties with the Club Neptune lot and sharing tunes on his tasty little radio show down at Netil Radio.

I really love those moments in a club where you suddenly find yourself in this deep, introspective space; the pressure has been slowly building for a while, the atmosphere is kind of simmering to the point where it feels like it might boil over… I guess the mix is inspired by moments like that, really.

I had this imagery in my mind of a deep-sea dive - the pressure mounting as you go deeper, until eventually you’re in this other-worldly place with all kinds of trippy-looking creatures. Then making your way back to the surface, the pressure eases as you see the light and feel the sea spray… hopefully that comes across haha

People should definitely check out the Coop Audio collective. We’ve done a few collaborative parties with them and their ethos on safe raving is something that really resonates. They also run this annual weekender in which everyone is encouraged to participate in making the weekend a success by contributing a skill/talent to the weekend, whether that’s running a workshop, teaching yoga or playing a DJ set. Pus they’ve all got peng tunes and are really lovely people. So yeah big shout out Chris & co ♡

Lol probably you to be honest Jas. I guess it was a festival not a club, but we met through mutual pals at Waterworks a couple of summers ago, had a very nice & wholesome time, and have been bezzy m8s ever since x

I was in Berlin last weekend and went to Darwin’s Reef party at Berghain. Aside from the weapons-grade bangers, it just felt really special to party somewhere that gives such weight and importance to people having freedom to be themselves.

Sunju Hargun’s ‘Unrush’ mix is one I keep coming back to at the moment. Deeper than deep ambient vibrations from an insanely versatile DJ. Someone who should be on everyone’s radar rn.

Any time I watch Jeff Mills do his thing, I repeatedly come away convinced that he’s probably the best DJ in the world.

I lived in Hanoi for a few years and it still holds a really special place in my heart. Clubs like Savage and parties like Snug are creating something unique in the Asian scene, unearthing and showcasing loads of local talent in a country that’s not necessarily known for its clubbing scene worldwide (but soon will be imo). kinetic mix 07: Max Q "pressure and release"

This mix was recorded live during a sound & movement workshop I ran with my partner, Bex, at the studio back in early March.

The idea was to stitch together sounds, moods  and textures that complimented the accompanying yoga flow being taught by Bex, moving slowly through breath-work and meditation into some gentle movement and yin yoga. 

I tried to build a sort of collage of warm, dubby ambient, with some sparse percussion later on to soundtrack the movement part of the session. Perfect listening for a Spring stroll or at home melting into the sofa 🫠

JUNO REVIEW: Fresh from delivering a suitably intoxicating chunk of feverish tribal techno on their own Belly Dance Services stable, Hanzo & Yaman bring their trademark brand of percussive dance music to Tom Tom Disco. Title track "Tropicalas" is notably different to its predecessor, with the pair layering up wonky chants and South American style percussion over a looped synth bassline. It's hugely endearing and celebratory all told, and comes backed with two bonus cuts: the hypnotic ethno-techno throb of "Titaporn" and the quirky nu-disco/percussive house bounce of "Hola Hola". Of the trio of accompamying remixes, we're particularly enjoying the loose, acid-flecked breakbeat shuffle of Lily Haz's rework of "Titaporn" and Tony Disco's exotic, Middle Eastern disco revision of "Tropicala".

Hanoi with a blue sky. It's a rare but beautiful sight to see the skyscrapers sway in the heat, with the Ba Vi mountains towering above. The warm autumn air breezes through your hair as you cruise through the shadows of the palms, occasionally stopping for a coconut, and watching the boats on the lake. 

With nowhere to be, you sit on the shore and sit a bit longer while that deep blue turns to a brooding red. As the colors turn, the honking starts and two-wheelers throng the streets, desperate to catch a glimpse of the maroon before it turns to an also kind of maroon black. Your coconut's getting a bit warm - you'd better order another one.

Vita D's blissed-out vinyl only exploration of jazzy and synthetic sounds is perfect for when you're drifting around lakes, trekking up mountains, or doing anything that makes your day-off a day-off.
