Rolandson is Magician On Duty and process his thoughts & feelings about current influences on the basis of the political and social occurrences into that »Music has a Message« - Mix.

He is a traveler not a tourist. this traveler of tunes began his voyage in the mid 90s and has since explored the depths of 90s Berlin dub & techno, the electro swing revival in Paris/ France and Brighton/ England, downtempo and indigenous sounds from all over the world during his travels and discovering many more musical impulses that have shaped his life along the years. So in this his selections are always a highly curated combination of unique tracks that are timeless and that overcome the boundaries of genre, country, or context. 

When he’s not behind the decks, he’s the driving force behind his label and podcast series “Seasidetrip”, which he started in 2012 after recording a mix at sea. Since the first Seasidetrip mix, many artists have have interpreted their love and longing for the sea in their own mixes, contributing to the growth of this wonderful project which has not only touched the hearts of its listeners, but also led to many friendships and inspiring collaborations with other artists along the way.

Sein Stil: In Deepness getaucht, ausgefüllt mit einem Flow völliger Versunkenheit, der zu monumentalen Weiten begleitet und zur Szene völliger Schwerelosigkeit wird.

🐿  Mit welchem Wunsch bist du ins neue Jahr gestartet und bist du optimistisch, dass er in Erfüllung geht?

Ich bin gar nicht so eine theatralisch-ins-neue-Jahr-Starterin. Ich habe immer viele Wünsche. Bei mir haben sich einige Projekte ergeben dieses Jahr und ich habe trotz der Gesamtkacke meistens schon den Glaube daran, dass irgendwie alles gut wird.

🐿 Wie kommen die Leipziger Szene und deine Freunde denn so durch den kulturellen Winterschlaf?

Viele Menschen in meinem Umfeld, inklusive meinerselbst, haben ganz verschiedene Stadien durchgemacht. Von der Debatte zur Systemrelevanz, in der die eigene Identität diskutiert, verteidigt und vielleicht sogar neu gefunden werden musste. 
Über den Sommer, in dem die Szene versuchte, über Digitalangebote oder AHA-Veranstaltungen, den neuen Kurs abzutasten.
Bis zu diesem Winter. Und ja, was soll ich sagen? Ich glaube alle haben es gerade sehr schwer. Kein Bock mehr auf Streams, immer die gleichen 3 Gesichter der Infektionsgruppe und die Ungewissheit, wie oder wann es weitergehen soll.
Ich hoffe aber gleichzeitig, dass aus dieser Ruhe und dem Innen-Sein auch eine ganz neue Kraft geschöpft werden kann. So wohl für die Szene, als auch für die Individuen selbst.
Viele meiner Freunde versuchen produktiv zu bleiben und ihre Energie in neue Konzepte zu stecken. Einige haben auch einfach wieder mehr Zeit um wirklich kreativ zu sein, auch wenn das eben nicht in der Öffentlichkeit ausgelebt werden kann. 
Mal ganz davon abgesehen, dass gerade viele (Sub)Kultur-Projekte ums überleben kämpfen, versuche  ich mir immer bewusst zu machen, dass wir doch im globalen Vergleich immer noch einen sehr privilegierten Lockdown durchmachen. Das hilft mir, mich auf das Positive zu konzentrieren.

🐿 Welches neue Hobby hast du im Lockdown etabliert?

Leider habe ich kein neues Hobby angefangen. Allerdings hat der Lockdown mir die Zeit gegeben, mich mit „alten“ Tätigkeiten wieder mehr auseinander zu setzen. Dazu gehört auf jeden fall das Musik hören. Das habe ich ne Zeit lang ziemlich obsessiv betrieben, dann wieder viel weniger, und jetzt bin wieder eingetaucht. Das gibt mir voll den Frieden.
