Bob Dylan in Minnesota - Duluth News Tribune Minute Podcast

The Solid Rock Show this week is on Wednesday evening from 7pm and the show will feature an interview with K G Miles about his latest collaborative work titled Bob Dylan in Minnesota: Troubadour Tales From Duluth, Hibbing and Dinkytown and published by McNidder & Grace. The book was released recently on 26th April, 2023.

Rock show host Steve Ashwell first met Keith Miles and Jackie Lees during lock down in 2020 to talk about the first in the Troubadour Tales series based on London. Keith returns to talk about the fourth book in the series about Bob Dylan. Keith collaborates on this occasion with a musician and TV host (Paul Metsa), a resident and promoter of the Duluth Dylan Fest (Ed Newman), a concert promoter in Minnesota (Marc Percansky) and a fellow Dylan author (Matt Steichen).

Bob Dylan was born in Duluth in Minnesota, grew up in Hibbing,Minnesota and cut his musical teeth in the folk scene of Dinkytown, Minnesota. The book brings together wonderful stories from each of these key locations and provides detailed information about the roots and the early life of Bob Dylan. True to the other titles in the series, the book is an easy read and no heavy academic tome.

The October edition of the DylanHour focuses on a new publication from the Dylan cosmos.
Bob Dylan in Minnesota - Troubadour Tales from Duluth, Hibbing and Dinkytown by Keith Miles (published by McNidder & Grace).

This is the third book, after London and New York, in which Keith Miles traces the places that played a role in the life and career of Bob Dylan.

For this book, he contacted much of the Dylan network in Minnesota, who freely provided him with stories from Dylan's youth (in Hibbing & Duluth), "study period" in Minneapolis & Dinkytown.

With Marc Percansky, one of the co-authors, I talked about his part in this book, the interview has been included in this show framed by a few outtakes from The Bootleg Series Vol. 16 1980-1985 "Springtime in New York." *

Since the DylanHour traditionally deals with new publications from the narrower and wider other Dylan cosmos during the book fair in Frankfurt, the host also presents the volume of poems published by Schöffling & Co. at the end of August.

The March issue of DylanHour presents the two Troubadour Tales books by Keith Miles (https://www.radiodarmstadt.de/news/dylanhour-troubadour-tales-und-klaus-doldinger-in-nyc.html)

In the course of the pandemic, Keith has designed a guide through clubs and bars in London (together with Jackie Lees) and New York's Greenwich Village, asking companions to tell their stories with Dylan and visit the places and stations of his career again.

The host of the show has conducted an interview with the British "Dylan" author after the London concerts, about his "Troubadour Tales" and his current impressions of the last concerts of the Rough and Rowdy Ways worldwide tour. 

The DylanHour repeatedly suggests an arc in the German and international jazz cosmos and presents the recently published autobiography by Klaus Doldinger with the title: "Made in Germany - My Life for the Music." The host is focused on the experiences of the 60's and 70's in New York City, and from time to time it is musically immersed in the spheres of jazz & folk of those days.

Klaus Doldinger has a lot to tell about his experiences and performances in New York and even found himself in 1972 at a party with the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and Andy Warhol.

This also means that half a century of life for music is not yet told today until now and here. But certainly in the near future at Neighborhood Bullies & Shooting Stars.

The line from CY’s small book about Ruby and her subsequent song were a fitting and beautiful tribute to your close friend.  Her concept of sunshine and Ruby lingered with me after reading the small book and listening to her song.  Subsequently, a good friend’s family dog succumbed to age and it reminded me of conversations we had previously about Ruby’s age.  That factor and my remembering how you reacted when Ruby was with us or you talked about her, suggested to me that not only did “the sun shine on Ruby,” but, for you, her friendship caused “the sun to shine from Ruby.”  Those two points came together to formulate what I wrote.  As a writer, CY knows that the power of the written word, even in a small book, is to propagate.

LOUIE KEMP got to call Robert Zimmerman his best friend, growing up in Hibbing, Minnesota in the 1950s. Louie kept the family fish business humming in the Great Lakes region. His buddy became Bob Dylan and changed the world. In his new memoir, Dylan & Me: 50 Years Of Adventures, Louie is ready to paint his masterpiece in Bobby's image, revealing the man behind the iconic Dylan persona. Kemp's book is affectionate and in no way salacious.

After a period of estrangement, Louie was permitted unique access to the Dylan camp as the Rolling Thunder Revue chugged along in the mid 1970s. Louie joins "Cavalcade" at 10pm to spin some tall Zimmy tales, and we'll hear the Dylan music from his time as Rolling Thunder tour manager, and the songs of their youth that inspired it all (https://www.wfuv.org/content/cavalcade-october-27)
