Tokyo's @sapphire-slows has her own distinctive aesthetic. The music she makes is ghostly and delicate, eerie yet beautiful. The multi-talented artist plays her own synths and keys and layers her own beautiful vocal drones into her tracks to lend them extra intimacy. This of course means she has toured extensively and released on labels such as Japan's Big Love, Greece's Nous and LA's Not Not Fun/100% Silk. Despite often making and playing music with the brain cleansing purity demonstrated on 2017 album Time, Sapphire Slows can also do more caustic and mechanical sounds, as on 2014's Allegoria LP.

This week's mix explores a melancholic and introspective mood, but it is never dark. A range of mid-tempo rhythms set the tempo. Sometimes they're dubby and linear, at others more bubbling and off-grid, while the synths above glow like fireflies or glisten like knives in the sun. Organic bird calls float above hyper-real synthetic textures and the overall effect is to cocoon you in suspensory and meditative sound that feels out of this world.

Tom Dicicco is a renowned electronic music producer and DJ, known for his deep and atmospheric techno sound. He has made significant contributions to the techno scene with releases on respected labels such as Delsin, M>O>S Recordings, Jordan GCZ's Off Minor, and Anthony Parasole’s The Corner.

Throughout his career, Dicicco has collaborated with notable artists like Fred P, Luke Hess, Dario Zenker and Skudge, and has appeared alongside them on VA releases.

More recently, Tom has been working on a new collaboration with long time friend and artist Roger 23. Recording between the UK and Germany, Tom and Roger have been amassing a collection of tracks ready for release very soon.

For Short Attention Mix 047, Tom Dicicco provides a 60-minute music selection that reflects his diverse musical taste and eclectic influences, offering a rich blend of genres beyond his usual techno sound.

Russell started DJing in 1988. Along with a group of friends he promoted his first parties "Moonstomp", favouring the underground sound of New Beat and the EBM coming out of Belgium, Holland and the UK. Since then he has promoted and played at various parties from United Frequencies in the early 90's alongside DJs such as Andrew Weatherall, David Holmes, Darren Emerson and Leftfield's Paul Daley.
In 2004 he formed The Digital Gimp Society! and regularly showcased @ 333 in Old Street, East London with Blackstrobe DJs, Mark Moore, The Hacker and Richard H Kirk as well as promoting various events across London.
Early 2014 saw the birth of his Música Noche project, enjoying numerous parties with guests including Khidja, Scott Fraser, Craig Bratley, Richard Sen, Daniele Baldelli, Ruf Dug, Coyote, Apiento, Leo Mas and many more.
Most recently Russ locked horns with Kindred spirits, Kirsty Pemberton and Marc Hasler for their PIDR collective. With their mutual love of all things left of centre and “machine” the three have promoted and played at events from Belgrade to Brixton with their favourite artists including Vactrol Park, Schwabe (Tapan) and Ali Renault.
Influences from Prince to Nitzer Ebb, Hip-Hop to techno make up his style, but an open mind and reluctance to follow the crowd are mantras he holds close

"Janne Puurunen’s, known by his stage name DJ Burdock, passion for music ignited in the late 80s when he discovered the enchanting realm of electronic sounds and began collecting hip hop records. His journey led him to underground warehouse parties in the Turku area, where he was captivated by the electrifying atmosphere.

In 1993, Janne co-founded The X-Rust Organization, an influential collective devoted to promoting underground electronic music.

Janne made his mark as a DJ in 1995 when he adopted the moniker DJ Burdock, drawing inspiration from the plant that ensnares with its spikes and hooks. With over a decade of experience behind the decks, his extensive collection spans the spectrum from minimal to deep and dubby techno, seamlessly blending fresh sounds with old-school classics. A testament to his versatility, Janne's involvement in the Acid Symphony Orchestra of Jori Hulkkonen showcases his love of acid music with the iconic Roland 303 synthesizer."
