I discovered Frankie Knuckles through his music, one that was, gentle, lush with a subdued, understated power that rocked many a dancefloor.
I had the privilege to hear him once in the heyday of his legendary residency at Sound Factory Bar in New York. I was submerged, sonically and emotionally by the beauty of the music I heard that night. I remember very clearly saying to myself that this would be impossible to ever equal.
That was 20 years ago, and I never got to hear this magic combination again.

I got to meet Frankie a few times, and he was always like his music, gentle, humble,   yet naturally imposing

I've put together here some of my favorite music from him. So that his legacy can keep on inspiring other people.

Rest in peace, Frankie, may your music keep on moving people eternally

Tash's Movement Recordings rounds out the month of January by welcoming Nosh & SJ back to the label for a new EP. Emerging in 2013, the Indian duo quickly became residents at some of Mumbai's trendiest nightclubs, while their distinct sonic aesthetic landed them key production credits via Dopamine Music, Eat My Hat and Juicebox Music. 2023 marked the duo's Movement Recordings debut with the well-received 'Energy High' EP, a two-track showcase with both selections still sitting atop the duo's Beatport Best Sellers almost a full calendar year later. Now, as 2024 begins to take shape, Nosh & SJ make a welcome return to Movement with their second artist showcase 'Unleashing The Power'. Nosh & SJ's keen dancefloor sensibility is always present in their productions and the title selection 'Unleashing The Power' demonstrates that perfectly. Dark and energetic from the outset, the duo assembles a powerful selection of razor sharp stabs, crunchy rhythms and robotized vocals, sitting atop a framework of spacious basslines and thunderous kick drums. In contemporary fashion, the vocal expands across the break, carrying with it waves of anticipation as electronics fire and drum rolls towards a club-effective finale. The second selection 'Dance of Existence' proves to be a worthy complement with its tough, driving energy. Punchy beats power the groove, while percolating rhythms and shapeshifting overlays add space and intrigue. Continuing to evolve as the main break commences; emotive melodies and calming atmospheres create a unique emotional response, before a timely vocal motif cues an electrically charged final act. The third and final selection 'Dreamscape' continues the crossover style for which the duo have become so beloved. A rolling low end sets the track in motion as clustered melodies, acid stabs and buoyant rhythms move through the framework as the main break approaches. Foggy and mysterious, the interlude sits at the core of the storyboard, with its timeless appeal and crisp effects eventually revealing modulating bass and percolating acid lines, before a striking vocal sample sparks a finale of 303s and uplifting melodies to round out the EP perfectly.
