The issue of “transition” has played a special role in Mashayekhi's thinking and music, so much so that it becomes the main theme of his 9th symphony titled “My World.” Here, and in other works such as East-West, Op. 45 and Direction East, Op. 92, Mashayekhi has a direct reference to “origin and destination.” In Tehran-Berlin 2019, his two favorite cities are symbolically located in the arena of Iranian-European dialogue. In this work, we have a texture of Iranian modality, European tonality and thematic expressions. Here, the role of the Trumpet is reminiscent of the sound of Ta'zieh—a kind of street theatre—which the composer remembers from his childhood.

Shahrzad is a part of the answer to a question that has always been on Mashayekhi’s mind. He asks himself, “What would happen if the Iranian music community was not caught in a centuries-old sleep?” So much neglect that we don't even know how long we have been suffering from it. Mashayekhi realized the capacity of evolution and expansion of Iranian music in a hypothetical trip that led to a Five-Composition Collection for piano. The collection includes Short Stories, Op. 106; Letters, Op. 110; A La Recherche Du Temps Perdu, Op. 111; Crystal 1 and 2, Op. 113; and Shahrzad, Op. 115. Shahrzad becomes a reason to search and express his philosophical thoughts. This is not a story about “Shahrzad the storyteller.” Rather, it is an analysis of how and under what circumstance a person becomes Shahrzad. Mashayekhi's polyphonic theory is the foundation of this piece. He begins his journey with a simple and beautiful Kurdish song, and, by passing through Iranian classical music, he reaches the threshold of Atonality.

The character of Salome has inspired many works of art throughout history, among them the writings of Oscar Wilde and the music of Richard Strauss. Mashayekhi does not believe in descriptive music, but he also does not deny “associations de idée” related to an event or a person, in this case, the character of Salome. Explaining this work, he says: “Crystallization of love and hate. This is not a story for me, but so much love and hate feels good in the environment of my music.”

Mashayekhi's interest in combining similar instruments was first reflected in a piece called Modal 2015 for Nine Double Basses and Percussion Instruments, Op. 242. Pleased with the results of that work, the composer wrote this piece for four violins.

درباره‌ی این اثر، به قلم تارا اله‌وردی و پوریا فرجی می‌خوانیم: «فايل‌های صوتی‌ای که در اين مجموعه گردآوری شده‌اند از مصاحبه‌ی حميد ايزدپناه با امام‌قلی امامی استخراج شده است که به گفته‌ی خود امام‌قلی در زمان مصاحبه 85 سال داشته است. اين مصاحبه شامل معرفی امام‌قلی، اجرا‌ی پانزده آهنگ و توضيح درباره‌ی آن‌ها از زبان ايشان است. امام‌قلی در اين مصاحبه با تنبور دو سيمی که خودش ساخته است اجرا می‌کند و به زبان محلی آن را «تميره» می‌خواند

درباره‌ی این اثر، به قلم محمود مشهودی می‌خوانیم: «در ايران، بيشترين تراکم جمعيتیِ قومِ عرب واقع در جنوبِ غربی کشور، و مناطقِ مرکزی، غربی و جنوبیِ استان خوزستان است. قوم عربِ ساکنِ استان خوزستان را می توان، بر اساس نوع زيست، معيشت و فرهنگ، به پنج دسته ی عربِ حَضْری (شهری)، رِيفی (روستايی)، بَدَوی (صحرانشين)، مِعدان (هورنشين) و جِبيلات (عرب بختياری) تقسيم کرد.

به‌‏جز سه نوع موسيقیِ «حَضْری» (شهری)، موسيقیِ «شَعبی‏ ـ   رِيفی» (مردمی-روستايی) و موسيقیِ مردم‏‌پسند، گونه های ديگری نيز در ميان عرب‏‌های خوزستان رايج است. نقش موسيقی در مراسمِ شادمانی، رقص، حرکات حماسی، عزاداری، مذهبی و لالايی بسيار مهم و تعيين کننده است، ولی در فعاليت هايی مانند کارهای گروهی و انفرادی، مراسمِ آئينی، بازی های‌ کودکانه، مراسمِ طنز و داستان خوانی، می توان گفت، موسيقی در درجه ی دومِ اهميت قرارمی گيرد؛ به‌‏صورتی که گاهی نيز اين دسته از مراسم بدون حضور موسيقی برگزار می شوند. 

نکته ی بسيار مهمی که بايد در فرهنگ و موسيقی اعرابِ خوزستان به آن توجه شود مستقل‏‌بودن بيشترِ مراسم و فعاليت های فرهنگی‏- اجتماعیِ زنان و مردان از يکديگر است. از اين رو، کارگان(رپرتوآر) های موسيقی آنان کاملاً متفاوت با يکديگر اجرا می‏شود

درباره‌ی این اثر، به قلم ژان دورینگ می‌خوانیم: «تنبور، به‌رغمِ سادگی، سازِ کاملی‌ست که همراهی کوبه‌ای‌ها چيزی به آن اضافه نمی‌کند، چراکه ضربه‌های دستِ راست روی ساز ريتم را با وضوح بي‌نقصی مشخص می‌کند و اجرای انواع دگره‌های دلخواه را ممکن می‌سازد. از همين روست که تنبورِ کُردی، و بخصوص تنبورِ استاد، به ندرت با دف همراه می‌شود و در آن مواردِ نادر هم همراهی دف براي پشتيبانی از صدای خواننده يا به رقص درآوردنِ جمع است. تنبور خود سازی کامل است، و در عينِ حال، مکملی بی‌نقص براي آواز...در بعضی فرهنگ‌ها، از اين ساز در اجرای موسيقی عبادی و مقدس هم بهره می‌گيرند
