A lot of things have been said about Volor Flex, the young Russian producer whose music feels and acts like both a tribute and, at times, a cover of this mysterious iconic musician called Burial whom you might've heard of on previous occasions. 

Some people think "this sounds too much like the original, we don't need copycats" while others went as far as calling it "Burial v2".

Volor Flex - Lost Memory

Altiplano, Volor Flex’s effervescent collab with fellow Russian producer and good friend Encode, is yet another dateless - albeit state-of-the-art - immersion into the polyrhythmic, dense, visceral compositions that this prolific artist is constantly fine-tuning somewhere in the steppe of the Ural Mountains.

There’s a lot of synced up emotional comfort and tension happening on both sides of the release, balanced-out, as ever, by artfully crafted elements of structure and style. Among them, the everpresent UK garage signature, the noise-drenched soundscapes, the sharp snares, the skittering beats, the melancholy vocals (especially on Altiplano, which easily competes with You In Me or Fake Love in unforgettableness), plus those entrancing moments of fervor followed by profound relief that Volor is such a master of.

The main track and subsequently the EP were named after the highest and largest plateau in South America, and that’s how exalted and wide-reaching this music should feel. Both inner-city and otherwordly, both London and Syktyvkar, the 7-track, two-sided EP is going deep to get that right, raw vibe. The 12” comes with a wonderfully exciting digital perk, a sweet and soulful bonus track titled Avia.

Underground cult legend James Pants brings a tripped out tribal stomp meets Lynchian vibe to his "Shibaura" remix while enigmatic Japanese producer Bun takes a microscope to "Lithograph," honing in on the finest granules of vinyl cracks with an ambient leaning rework. D Tiberio turns "Aurora" into essential night bus listening. Afterhours and Gossamer contribute uptempo edits of "The Color White" and "Sagrada" respectively, each bringing extra thump and dance floor utility to the already heady and heavy mixes.

“Aorea, they called it. The empire of three.

Back in year 3954pa. Claire A’dari was the holder of the Sovereign Circles. The Ardan of the three empires who ruled the galaxy:
 
Dori, a collection of people driven by war and honor, relying heavily on their technology and intelligence they colonised worlds but also gave protection.

Mani, most of it’s races rugged and though by nature due to living in places with some of the most uninviting enviroments. But they didn’t have the technology to match the Dori. Not needing to breathe or sometimes not even eat doesnt spring the same need to evolve. 

Vortu, no one really knows who they were more than that the Ardan was one of them. But for some reason their whole territory of space is now null-sec territory after the great disbanding. The reason that not even the Dori are willing to send expeditions there have made it a place of mystery and a lot of storytelling today tells stories of what might be in there. 

The Great Disbanding
Holding together the three empires was Claire A’dari, a being as old as the world itself. The Ardan, the was called and she maintained peace between the empires and all was well. But one day she dissapeared, or died. The story varies but after the Ardans dissapearance the Dori got greedy and started treating the Mani almost like slaves. It all ended in a great war resulting in the Mani almost dissapearing and Dori being ruler over 40% of known space, the rest was belonging to Vortu. Vortu kept out of the battles all along and quietly dissapeared deep into their own territory. It was to be known as “The Great Disbanding” and started a new era. We are now at the third cycle period since the disbanding and the world is slowly starting to rebuild.

Was there anything else you wanted to know, commander?”

“No that will do, lets get going.”

“Iscandarium, a place shrouded in mystery and legend for those who have not yet travelled far enough out of commercial systems. Its pretty weird though, I mean the place is huge even for an Alpha carrier, that its so unknown for most people. 
If you don’t know what an Alpha carrier is all you need to know is that they contain a Anti-Space Generator instead of regular fusion engines. Yeah I know what you think, ”But one Anti-space generator is enough to supply a whole Arch-city!”. And that alone should give you an idea of its size. Its also the reason they can stay so out of reach for everyone who don’t know where to look, when they never need to find fuel. 
Anyways, the place itself isn’t so weird. It has people leading their lives selling things, cooking food, repairing ships and hunting down lost exile Colonies who in an attempt to get away from punishment ended up stranded in space. The ship is so big that when you are inside its bigger than most space stations and if you didn’t know that almost everyone except Nirak Tuharak, the captain, was either given a death penalty och cast out of their societies you wouldn’t think it was any special.“

“Ah, the luminescent skyline of Aes Khana, the capital of Erok Madagira. Its actually the only town on this planet but it makes up for that in size, covering almost half the planet with its sky reaching buildings and dwindling Aero-Hauto roads. A lot happens here, as you can guess. At first glance it may look like a place where dreams come true, with all the nice stores and a seemingly infinite offering of different cultures and people, but if you start really looking at it you’ll notice another layer of this place. Its called Arem Miak’er, ”Underneath Home” in english, and is home to some of the biggest crime collectives in this region. Doesn’t matter if your looking for rare materials or illegal weapons and augmentions, they got it. 
But it feels good to be back down here, even though we only deal in artifacts and rare goods its a place where people won’t look twice at you for carrying around a Xalibur class rifle on you back, and thats a nice change.”

“I knew it would come to this, again. Being on the run is everyday procedure nowadays, even though we don’t really know what were running from. But someone is after us, but they won’t follow us everywhere. As long as we stay within hi-sec regions or even some low-sec systems we are usually safe. But as long as we aren’t it doesn’t take long time until its there again, that little blinkin lamp indicating that someone is tracing us. 
Thats what you get I guess, being a mercenary in this world doesn’t really get you a whole lot of friends, rather the opposite. But none of that matters now, they are closing in and if we don’t get our navigation system up and running we won’t stand a chance against whatever is after us. Even if we do get it online it won’t be guaranteed that we’ll reach the jump-zone in time, it’ll be a pursuit whatever happens.”
