Continuing my Winter Series, this week I’ll be exploring a vibe that I personally will coin “Psy House”. Does Psy House even exist as a sub-genre? I don’t think it does. But if anything quantifies as Psy House, I feel as though I’ve found it. If you’re curious, give a listen and let me know what you think. Regardless, it’s definitely a vibe.

Psy-Trance is most certainly a genre that has a distinctive sound people can easily recognize. Driving beats with droning melodies that put listeners into a psychedelic trance is what earned the name. Many people can’t hang with intensity that is Psy-Trance.

I however grew up going to Psy-Trance raves all over the province of Quebec when I was a teenager. It is engrained in my heart as much more than a sound, it’s an entire community of incredible souls that are magnetized to the tribe. I don’t listen to Psy-Trance much anymore, but I appreciate my understanding of all that it is and can be. Big love for my diehard Psy-Trance friends, they’re amazing.

So this week I’m taking the vibe and putting them into a 4-on-the-floor rhythm. I’m Smoothing down the intensity of Psy-Trance, slowing down the tempo, and getting hypnotized with the sounds. I wanted to select tracks that aren’t as aggressive, and sound more warm and inviting. Instead of scaring people off, I want to open people’s minds to the beauty of this sub-genre. Let’s vary the bassline a tiny bit, and pepper in some hypnotic melodies. Join me as we explore what I call “Psy House”.

Spring is returning and more sun light is on the way! I have been craving the company of friends in warmer, sunnier weather and decided to make a mix with that theme in mind. 

The mix was inspired by a golden hour set I played for a Burning man camp fundraiser/party (a.k.a Soggy Bottoms)By Porch Catz last summer. Dove pretty deep into my playatech/deep house tracks for this one.

We are excited to present release number 5 from Tropical Oasis Retreat Maui - Sunshine Jones'  100% Live set on Saturday night!

Sunshine's inspirational messages and brilliant music were the perfect way to close out our first day and night of amplified music.

In addition to this live set Sunshine also played a dj set, hosted a small music seminar - mahalo for being such an integral part of ur event!  

Sunshine Jones is often called a "house legend" from San Francisco. A founding member of Dubtribe Sound System. He also makes electronic music by himself. He travels the world performing a live/DJ set - live mixing, singing, re editing on the fly, and championing the idea that literally anything you can syncopate is house music. He re edits for leisure, experiments with electronics for adventure, is often in an airplane, and is very kind to children.
