At last, fresh installments in our acclaimed much-loved singles series: open-hearted, bittersweet, Afro-tropical, mash-up postcards from all over the world, pictures to the here and now. As always Electronico Afrotropicalismo carries the swing. We’ve managed to identify KUPPO in the forgotten jungle of Santa Lucia, intoxicated by exotic cocktails and beautiful women! Carried him in the studio to perform his “Principe De Plata Y Oro” Afro-Tribal Tech alter-ego, full of groove and positive vibes while LARRY SKG, a Lobo Fuerte gentleman of the modern Cumbia/Ghetto-Latin electrotropicalismo, was caught in a Greek mysterious island playing chess with a caretta- caretta and was forced to end up with a slow motion hypnotic n' exotic Broken Samba retaining the haunting yet beautiful melancholia of a faded Summer!

A few years later of “Vamos A Comer” EP (2010 © Lovemonk) and the “Unexpected Tapas” (2011 © Lovemonk) album releases, the Basque-German DJ & music maker, Mikel Makala, and the producer and director of the Gasteiz Big Band, Jimmy Bidaurreta, join forces again to create a new album called “Descarga Libre” (2019 © Orrua Diskak). Now the Basque duo strikes with the same purpose to rescue those Latin, Jazz, Funk and Descarga to Nuyorican Salsa sounds of labels like Fania, in combination with club & dancefloor rhythms. In the beginning of 2019 they’re back with a new album containing 7 originals songs, giving continuity to that brilliant sound they have signed together & have already obtained remarkable admiration from some international reputed DJs, producers and radio hosts, such as Craig Charles (BBC-6 Music, UK), Raphael Sebbag (United Future Organization, Japan), Mad Mats (Raw Fusion, Sweeden), Paul Murphy (Afro Art, UK), Diego Manrique “Ambigú” (Radio 3, Spain), ... to name a few. The album contains different collaborations such as London based half German/Chilean female singer Fedzilla (vocalist on Wara), Cuban singer & bass player Omar González Mesa (Daniel Amat Quartet), Cuban trombonist Yarian Yaque (Mayito Rivera & Orquesta Los Hijos de Cuba) and Cuban percussionist Denis Barzaga (Soneros de Changüí) and Iñigo Ortiz de Zárate, guitar & keyboard of Basque rhythm&blues & soul group, The Allnighters. 


El DJ y agitador musical vasco-germano Mikel Makala y el músico y productor de Donostia-San Sebastián, Jimmy Bidaurreta director de la Gasteiz Big Band, son unos de esos artistas que llevan mucho tiempo creando sus propios universos sonoros. En su nuevo proyecto conjunto en forma de álbum, “Descarga Libre” ponen de manifiesto que con un amplio abanico de ingredientes: Latin, Jazz, Soul, Funk, Descarga, Salsa Nuyorican o elementos Afro-Cubanos, se puede cocinar un buen plato. En estos experimentos creativos y vitalistas, estos alquimistas enamorados de los ritmos latinos, hacen música de ayer con la visión de hoy o música de hoy con la visión de ayer y con la que recorren territorios donde se funden estilos, timbres, sabores y climax. El resultado es estimulante y donde su sección rítmica hace que movamos los pies y todo el cuerpo. Pero no haríamos justicia si no habláramos de los músicos que les acompañan en esta aventura sonora, como los cubanos Omar González Mesa (Pancho Amat Cuarteto), cantante, bajista y guitarrista residente en Donostia; Yarian Yaque Gutiérrez (Mayito Rivera & Orquesta Hijos de Cuba), en el trombón y Denis Barzaga percusionista originario de Guantánamo. También participan Iñigo Ortiz de Zárate, guitarrista y teclista vasco del grupo The Allnighters y Fedzilla la vocalista chilena germana del grupo londinense WARA. Mención aparte hay que hablar de la gran portada del álbum confeccionada por Txarly Brown.

We are pleased to exclusively present to you the first remix taken from “Descarga Libre”, the album released by Makala & Jimmy Bidaurreta at the beginning of the 2019 year through Orrua Diskak, Mikel Makala's music label. The great Navarrese DJ and producer @nachopiek has remixed “Irratian”, the fifth cut of the notable work of the Basque musicians in which they fuse styles such as Latin, Jazz, Soul, Funk, Descarga and Nuyorican Salsa, as well as elements of the new trends in dance music. For this new version, the Navarrese producer adapts the original to the dance floors, maintaining the Jazz essence that the song gives off but adding a faster beat, which walks between house and disco accompanied by acid overtones and eighties synths. He has also dispensed with the voices to achieve a more energetic and direct effect on the track, more focused to the dance-floor.
