Clear Skies (Mr Perro X Remix, Contest Entry)

This album was our first creation and since the recording back in 2009, my voice depth, feeling and the production level of succeeding albums had left this one a little behind. I felt that the songs were timeless and deserved better. So I decided to bring the songs up to the production level of the other albums and first we tuned them down to 432Hz (which is the new frequency that I play music in) and then I sang it again. I hope you enjoy the vibes.

Benxoai chants in which healing occurs through a direct struggle against dark forces. The medicinal doctor, a strong Shipibo woman, sings and smokes a pipe; there’s fire, there are stars, while a Shipibo patient is being healed. In order to maintain poetry and metaphors, nothing’s literal: there is no voice-over explaining anything in Meraya, but rather images and music speaking for themselves.

Benxoai

Kano, or the chant that connects with the medicinal world, is also a word used in Ucayali to describe waterways and the thick traces of “kené” designs, or the patterns found in Shipibo-Konibo embroidery, painting, and pottery. The mythical origins of the “kené” traditional art forms are linked with the shapes of water and its supernatural entities, such as sirens.
