Mesmerizing music for Yoga/Movement that blends rhythmic percussion, SOULFOOD’s soothing melodies, warm synthesizer, ambient grooves, exotic flutes, mystical sitar, grand piano and mantras. Accompanying SOULFOOD are percussionists Brent Lewis and Jayson Fann, sitarist T. Gordon Anderson and jazz and classical pianist Peter Schimke.

Special guests include Grand piano by Peter Schimke; sitar by T. Gordon Anderson; percussion solos by Jayson Fann; mantras by Zat; and didgeridoo by Mike Koenigs.

SOULFOOD consulted Kripalu Yoga Fellowship President Jonathon Foust, Yoga/ Movement instructors and Swami Shivalingam Saraswati, Yoga Master from Nepal, to bridge together the sacred practice of Yoga with the art of musical composition.

Yoga Dreaming

You are invited to take a moment to contemplate what it means to embody receptivity. In what ways can you embrace and accept what is happening in your life? What can you feel going on in your body, mind, and emotions? Be receptive to it all, and allow the energy to flow into your dance. Often times it is through surrender and receptivity that a clear path forward is provided.

This set was played for Asheville Movement Collective's Sunday morning dance on May 16th. There's a lot of bird medicine in this set through the lyrics of a couple of songs. I didn't plan it out that way, it just happened. 

And so on the day of the dance, while we danced outside in my yard, of course, feeling our call a hawk circled us as Deya Dova's song "Return of the Bird Tribes" began, and then later during our closing circle as Shaunna was sharing her dance experience she noticed a hawk flying above her outside her house where she was dancing. And as she describes this to us all, my housemates and I saw our hawk return to circle above us! Praise the magic of our winged allies who help to sooth the winds of change that cross our skies. We love you!
