🇭🇰 For this month’s Tiger Tapes, we are delighted to host a Hong Kong rising star - @aniphoebe

Ani Phoebe is the co-founder of Bad Times Disco (HK), an online and pop-up record shop and party in Hong Kong, runs the Parallel Worlds radio show @thelotradio , and champions underknown records and sounds.

Understanding different cultures through music and history is her life passion, as so is language, politics, and writing. She’s especially influenced by early styles of production and artists in the 80s and 90s. Drawing from cosmic synth, breaks, old school hip-hop, Balearic choons, and wavy disco, she also leans towards the weird and oddball side of dance and electronic music.

She’s performed at @atlaselectronic (MR), Cosmic Gathering(DE), Goodroom (NY), Mihn club (HK), and contributed guest sets for @goptun (BR), Alter Disco (BR), @ctw-podcasts (FR), @planettriprecords (AU) and more. More often than not, she’s traveling, digging, and DJing, and it’s an approach to life and music, not a one-off tour for this internationalist.

Representing her heritage, Ani prepared a special vinyl set full of Cantonese goodies for your ears.

DJ/Producer/Remixer Victor Rosado is a very good old friend of mine, originally from New York, Victor has been actively DJ'ing since the 80's, having played at the Loft for David Mancuso and in the closing months of the Paradise Garage, asked to play by Larry Levan. Victor is someone I learnt an immense amount from in terms of music, and the importance of presentation. He was one if not the opening DJ at Club Yellow in Japan and one of the first opening DJ's at Ministry Of Sound in 1991 and played there during the first few very important years. Also he played at Moist (DJ Harvey and Heidi's) night at The Gardening Club in Covent Garden London. In the early 2000's we brought Victor over to london again to do various parties including Voices and other nights. Victor was also alongside Lenny Fontana part of the 'Tribute To Paradise' European tour, which myself and Johnny Hiller organised. Which took in clubs such as Fabric and more. This is a live mix converted from a DAT tape.. Victor was kind enough to lend to me many moons ago, while staying with him in The Bronx NYC. Enjoy this fine mix from the glory days of MOS.
