The first conversation of season 2 begins with Malick IV following on from my talk with Juliana Kasumu about the colour BLACK.

Born into a Gambian household against the backdrop of East London council housing, the Malick IV [MA-LICK THE FOURTH] story is one of an adventurer who has soaked in the flavours and tales from everywhere his travels have taken him, from years spent in Birmingham, Manchester and Republic of Ireland. 

The MTV Unsigned finalist has come a long way since his first solo LP, 'Blood of a Martyr' landed him the opportunity back in 2014. Recognised by MOBO as one of 2013's 'Biggest Underground Releases' of that year, the now father of two has returned with his first release since ‘Gambian Girl’ back in 2018. Malick IV has since ventured into modelling has which garnered auspicious results. He has featured in campaigns for Nike, Stussy, Carhatt as well as adverts for Reebok and Dr Martens; the latter involving the brand being welcomed into his home studio to document his recording process.

Dubbed a ‘lyrical wordsmith’ Malick’s return hasn’t disappointed with heartfelt freestyle Knight Of Cups in which he details the arduous life story of a close friend. The captivating freestyle precedes Kopensmoke which came about during a trip Malick IV took to Copenhagen pre-pandemic.

Mali states that his only mission going forward is to share lessons of his own inner healing and to remind his ever growing tribe that they are already the man and woman of their dreams, one song at a time.
