Haley Smalls is a singer, songwriter, and engineer with a classically trained voice, distinctive mainstream sound and noticeable R&B influence. Most say this makes her one of the most intriguing up and coming young artists out of Toronto, Canada. Over the last 4 years, Haley has benefitted greatly from the development that came working alongside Megaman, (Drake, Lil Wayne, Birdman, Tyga, Bow Wow, Yo Gotti) a producer that spent time catering to her musical strengths. This resulted in a chemistry that has been often seen and heard in the music she releases. Since then, Haley has released 4 mixtapes (This Is Me, Imagination, The Cure, The Cure II), an EP (Heart of Gold), and multiple unofficial singles. Still, Singer, Songwriter, Performer, Truth Over Illusion, better known as TOI, is parting the cloud. TOI’s mission is to give a clear view with her music, in the most digestible fashion. Through candid lyrics and creative melodies. this woman aims to serve a dish of catchy reality every time.

She is a proud descendant of Jamaican and Trinidadian parents; an appreciator of the popular sounds of reggae and soca, from which she draws much inspiration. But as a true lover of old-school R&B, this Canadian-born talent makes no mistake of anchoring her work in its essence. Her creative process pulls influences from almost any genre though, the result; listeners can easily find elements to identify with, making TOI’s sound one of fusion and soul that can be enjoyed by almost anyone.

Lyrically, she injects her writing with real-life experiences, not shying away from difficult topics like body-image issues or taxing relationships. She values substance, yet coupled with the right flow and rhythm, she produces something that can be well received by the masses; a carefully crafted balance of truth and illusion. No matter what she does, her goal is to always stay true and to use her music as a way to uplift the ones who choose to listen.

Though the times may change, the truth will always remain. And like the truth, TOI is here, carving her music into timeless art.
