Pioneering rapper Too $hort is going EDM with his newest project, an 11 track remix LP, Weird Science, on San Francisco imprint, MalLabel Music. 

The project features one original track by El Diablo ( @eldiablosf ) and 10 remixes all featuring Short Dog and rapper Oh Blimey, AKA Blimes Brixton -- who was recently featured in Spin's “50 Biggest Moments in White Girl Rap of All Time” -- trading verses over a selection of EDM producers. The title track is produced by Bay Area legend, El Diablo.

Other remixers on Weird Science include: Dirt Monkey x Omega, Psymbionic x Wolf-e-Wolf, Samples, AHAB, S.P.E.C.T.R.E, Timmy Tutone, Skulltrane, Smash & Grab, Trevor Kelly and Mochipet, who's BPM's range from Trap, Dubstep, Future Bass, Juke, House, and Experimental.

"A Too $hort/MalLabel collaboration was the natural next step," explains Mal, founder of MalLabel Music. 

"After years incorporating hip-hop into our events and our label releases--plus with the rise of trap music--I knew having a rapper like Too $hort on board would work with our audience."

MalLabel is also collaborating with community-conscious clothing line Grassroots California with a limited edition hat that includes a free download of Weird Science with purchase.

Weird Science will be available March 25, 2014.

Young Ben Lidsky, from the heart of it all in Denver, CO brings a new EP to the vaunted Gravitas Recordings label. The Flourish EP is five tracks of electro-soul, glitch-hop, and chillout beats with a thread of solid grooves and retro melodies tying it all together.

"Celestial Groove" sets the tone with easy bass and throwback samples. The liquid cool "Alone At Last" and "Place In My Head" are mature beyond Lidsky's 17 years, with a wild stew of different styles blending in triumphant runs. The bass is there in this collection of tunes, but it doesn't bash you over the head. The subtlety in this series is impressive.
