Uprooted is the second EP from Parisian DJ and producer BJF. It follows Iridescent, his debut EP released in 2020.

On Uprooted, BJF affirms its musical direction more than ever: percussive, hybrid, completely club-oriented; full of perfectly mastered samples, carefully articulated with each other.

Baloya opens the EP “gently” with its elegant synthetic horns before a storm of tamborzão and coupé-décalé claps descend. It is a very personal tribute to maloya, traditional music from Reunion Island, where BJF is from.

If since its first releases BJF has made percussion its signature, his drum kit on Uprooted has been considerably enriched. Baile funk, dembow, drill, UK funky or dancehall have no secrets for him as a DJ set, but in his productions, the producer defragments these genres and reassembles snippets of them with surgical precision, thus composing his own riddims, blurring labels and boxes. 

This new EP also marks a real evolution on the melodic part and on the atmospheres, like the synthetic brass of Baloya, the inimitable grime synth on Jump Riddim, or the Japanese flute on Fogo. The EP includes for the first time a featuring with an MC in the person of the Brazilian AKA AFK on the title Fogo.

Entering the world of microchips and solid state memory, Even The Strong presents PCB 1: high intensity scuzz drum straight from the motherboard. 

Using input data from the last six years of ETS — beginning from the very first warehouse party in 2016 — the PCB Rhythm Select automaton serves up a blistering collection of blown-out techno, ripe for clubs worldwide: from London to Tokyo, Devon to Amsterdam.

Custom soldered for the label, PCB 1’s circuitry renders the hallmarks of the hard drum sound from a fresh, computerised perspective. Familiar samples and nods to past basement anthems irreverently reference the HD canon. 

This is the sound of exploded computer components and hotwired samba patterns, bitcrushed film clips and thunderous drumline percussion. Blasted through myriad circuitry, the EP holds a chunky bass punch, wrenching heavy sub frequencies from molten copper.

YUNIS is a renowned Egyptian producer who explores his country's folklore heritage through the lens of electronic music, reinterpreting traditional wedding songs and sounds connected with Mawlid celebrations by pairing Ney flutes, keyboards, vocal samples and more with synthesizers. His brand new track, however, showcases different angle of his work as 'Matgarabsh, Ha!' is a raw and intensive beast centered around the frenetic, thumping drum rhythm. The song  comes as a part of second installment of '1PLACE4BEATS' series curated by French label Radio Chiguiro which aims to put the light on electronic music scenes in different countries around the world.

Featuring 8 different artists from Mexico to Lithuania, Peru, Portugal, Florida, UK and Belgium, ‘Maloca Vol. 1’ outlines the worldly focus of Le Motel’s new label. 

Launching Maloca Records earlier this year, the label’s ethos is to build bridges interlinking disparate yet like-minded musicians dedicated to blending organic electronic and acoustic elements. The global network of makers highlighted on Maloca Vol.1, the label’s first compilation, confabs a terrestrial and borderless percussive sound that has been bubbling in clubs and Le Motel’s orbit. 

Opening the compilation is esteemed Peruvian duo Dengue Dengue Dengue followed by Lithuania's DJ JM who has previously released on the likes of Nervous Horizon and Goon Club Allstars, Miami artist and NAAFI affiliate Nick León and Lisbon’s DJ N.K. On the second half of the compilation, there are contributions from the label founder himself, Mexico’s Omaar, UK’s Coen and mysterious artist Tsongo. 

Maloca Records has put out three vinyl releases to date from Oakland’s Farsight, Beijing’s Howie Lee and Le Motel. The label is quickly building a reputation for releasing brilliant forward-thinking club records whilst capturing specific international sounds.
