Premiere: B2 - PRZ - One Day [USR022]

Let’s get to the point: SPEED, the latest release from MALT, is built to rattle the dance floor. Its foundation is a bass synth going for a jog, taking cheeky steps but on a determined pace. The drums are programmed to propel and leave no dead air. Don’t mistake it for a straightforward DJ tool, though: the track kicks off with a simple “woo!” and takes its time opening up into a frenetic sci-fi heist. Teases of breaks and glassy arpeggios come to a head and flip the picture, throwing you curveballs and keeping you on your toes. Like the best blockbusters, it’s an action sequence that finds time to be lush and methodical. Yes, at its core, it’s a track designed to get you there. It’s also a track that doesn’t have all day—it needs you to hurry up and fucking dance.

For the steadier heads, the DubMax Version provides the bounce with a more gradual measure. A twisted vocal echoes throughout, almost a chuckle resonating past the chugging and shrugging. It’s a romp. Adam O also boards on with a remix, fixing to take you deeper into the bogs. Knocking garage kicks grab you by the limbs; grimy bass synths pull you into the proceedings. If the original was a race against time, this one’s a test against space, tossing you around within its bounds.

The cherry on top: MALT’s remix of an unreleased Adam O track, “What’s the Password”, an expeditious thriller. Evoking late 20th century paranoia, it moves at a breakneck speed to take you through fiber optics and dial-up lines, through command windows and terminals, to get you back to basics. Wipe the sweat off your brows.

After a period of quiet focus, MALT—a secret weapon and enduring mainstay of Los Angeles—briskly returns with a laser-precise EP that’ll steam up dance floors everywhere. Refill your fog machines and pick up the pace; this one’ll get things going.

PREMIERE: MALT - Speed

Los Angeles’s prince of acid electro, MALT, is back with a new 3-track EP set in the dark streets of a sci-fi noir, just in time for Halloween ruminations.

The title track “Scanner” is propulsive in its beat but walks steady, soundtracking the rush of a private eye keeping his head down and collecting pieces of his puzzle. Bright synth stabs puncture like new discoveries, before the Scanner comes around to knock our hero down a peg… a crunchy modulation rings out as a warning.

Force Placement, a hometown hero in L.A., anchors his remix around that cautionary siren, slowing it down and zooming in on the track’s shadowy realms. Chugging past clanging chains and clandestine voices, we’re the ones scanning now, searching for something we’re not sure of—before a harrowing discovery comes barreling towards us and the signal is lost in the noise.

B-side “Get Checked” is a more contemplative episode but no less energetic. That signature electro bounce remains under ominous pads that cloud around you, a haze that shrouds the voice you’re chasing. Does it have the answer you’re expecting? Or is it a figment of your imagination, wading in the waters of your introspection? Might be time to check yourself… you know, before you might wreck yourself.

PREMIERE: MALT - Scanner

During summer of 2023 we got the idea to unite norwegian and georgian producers to a compilation for the further enhancing of our nations bond. Rather than just asking for tracks, we sent out an invitation commisioning everyone involved to make a smooth track. As per usual on LEK, there were no limitations in terms of genre, but the track had to be somewhat relevant to the floor.

The total variety of different expressions far exceeded our expectations, and we are proud to present this compilation ranging all the way from deep dubby downtempo, party house, electro in many forms, and multi-crossovers.

Renowned for their boundary-pushing sonic explorations, Klein Zage and Joey G ii  join forces to deliver a captivating fusion of spoken word and electronic beats in their latest collaborative EP, ‘From New Cross To Ridgewood’ inspired by their time living together in South London. Set to be released at the end of March, the EP promises an immersive auditory experience that transcends genre boundaries featuring remixes from Local Artist, DJ Python and Ariel Zetina.
The EP marks a return to the stripped back musical style Sage became known for early in her career on Orphan Records, such as Womanhood EP and the sensational ‘The Sayers’ on the 2022 edition of Shouts. The record effortlessly blends  the ethereal spoken word prowess of Klein Zage with the electronic breaks wizardry of Joey G II.  The duo's ability to seamlessly merge spoken word poetry with innovative electronic soundscapes creates a unique and compelling listening journey that captivates from start to finish. 
Adding to the allure of the EP are the remix contributions from three distinct artists, each bringing their own perspective and style to the project. Producer and DJ of the moment, Ariel Zetina steps up to the plate with an impressive hyper chopped percussive rework whilst Local Artist RS alumni delivers a stellar dubbed out version perfect for any sunrise moment. The EP is then rounded off by cult producer DJ Python, known for his mix of ambient and ethereal production processes creating a stripped back version of ‘A Little Dissonance’.

Info: naive's 20th release epitomizes what the Lisbon-based label, run by Violet, has become cherished for: imaginative yet timeless, soothing yet moody, melodic yet sonic music. Entitled 'Computer Hermetics', this new record is an EP by UrbnMowgli, a fairly new Berlin-based artist who began releasing music in 2020.

The opening track, 'Fast Love Life', is a 145 bpm electro-bred, breakbeat-driven emotive dancefloor banger. It features menacing stabs juxtaposed with beautiful pads and acid-drenched arpeggio motifs that lend it a oneiric quality. 'Oracle Algorithm' picks up the 303 spirit and delves into trippier territories, densening the dreamlike, expansive atmosphere while infusing the record with electro-driven grit. Closing side A is 'Warschauer Rush-Hour', a futuristik, high-tempo twisted electro banger that's both tough and playful.

'Immaterial Desires' inaugurates side B--an ode to adventurous drum programming and intricate sound design in the form of a percussion-punctuated curveball belter. 'Digital Dawn' brings it all back home to the heart and closes the record with its deepest, most immersive moment, giving us big bass lines that alchemically converse with angelic bleepy melodies as if soundtracking a soulful sci fi movie that doesn't exist yet.
