BRAZEN - Mamadafunk PN

I got booked to play this beautiful little party by The Busy Movement after one of the organisers heard me play at a private party up in Te Arai about 6 weeks prior. I was asked straight after my set, but she had to check with her partner before locking it in. 

The next morning I was sitting next to one of my closest friends, talking and laughing like little kids as we always do, when the organiser came bouncing over with a big grin to tell me that it was all on and i was confirmed to play on the Friday/Saturday from 2am-4am. I was so humbled and excited by how this came about...

A few weeks later I received the news that my friend I was sitting next to that morning had crashed his car and passed away at the age of 34. He was one of my closest friends; we acted like little kids most of the time we were together - we shared the same silly sense of humour and the same passion for amazing music. 

This set was the first time I played since that private party and the passing of my dear friend and brother. Emotions were still raw, I had no idea what I was going to play, but I had my brother in my heart and this is the set that came out.

Thank you to Christa for booking me, and Janik for putting on such a beautiful party alongside her. 

This is dedicated to Jackson Takiaho, rest easy my friend x

Here we go folks - My input to the awesome Shipwrecked Festival 2023. This was played Friday afternoon on the Janky Mermaid. A sweet we nook that offers delicious times. I went for a friendly chunky funky house set that some great classic house tunes. #ifyouknowyouknow.
Thanks Logan and all the team, my heart and respect goes out to you all. I hope to return next year, maybe in the Humming Hut ;-) lol.

 To honor the lovely island of Jamaica, this dj set is simply my favorite feel good reggae tunes.  You will hear dub, conscious dancehall, lovers rock, ska,  and traditional roots reggae songs. Jamaica's musical influence is also heard in some Latin, West African, Turkish, Arabic, and Isreali tunes as well.  I really tried to tell a story with the songs, so I encourage you to listen closely to the lyrics, which speak about uniting together, becoming a better version of your self, the problems and challenges with money, the joy of smoking marijuana, everyday struggles, living good, and of course, LOVE. Almost all of these tracks I own on vinyl, and I had such a blast recording these all week long, just vibing on down memory lane, in preparation for  this set. I hope you enjoy it, and it brings positive vibrations to you and yours. Stay safe amigos, this too shall pass, and we will gather inna dance together very soon. One Love to all ~ SABO
