Zena Edwards is a writer, poet, mentor and radical educator of Caribbean heritage. 

She is founder and director of Verse in Dialog – an arts and engagement CIC that champions arts that serve climate and environmental justice, equity and decolonisation, personal sovereignty and collective well-being. 

With a career spanning over 25 years taking her across the globe, her writing explores deep immersion in examining collective and personal revolution – “staying human” – in the midst of social injustice and all its intersections, as well as re-membering that which has been dismembered in communities and our humanity.

Dans cette conversation avec Maïa Tellit Hawad, membre de la petite diaspora touareg en France, nous parlons d'un pays sans état et donc les contours sont plus fluctuants que les lignes coloniales tracées dans le sable du Sahara. Cet épisode autour du Pays Touareg, ses luttes contre le colonialisme européen, les répressions des états du Maghreb et du Sahel, et l'extractivisme multinational, est pensé comme un complément du texte écrit par Maïa pour le 44ème numéro de The Funambulist magazine(novembre-décembre.

Maïa Tellit Hawad est une chercheuse indépendante d’origine franco-touarègue, basée à Marseille. Elle a une formation de philosophe (Sorbonne, EHESS - Paris 7). Ses recherches questionnent les imaginaires du Sahara dans les sciences africanistes françaises et l’imbrication de la géographie, de la colonialité et des politiques de la race dans les administrations actuelles du Sahara central. Ses travaux récents s’intéressent aux devenirs nomades au sein de la société touarègue contemporaine. Elle co-réalise actuellement un premier documentaire qui s’intéresse aux femmes musiciennes touarègues de la région de Agadez.

This week we were planning to bring you an episode about money in the digital age, but with everything that is currently unfolding in occupied Palestine we felt that this conversation between two leading thinkers on the subject was an important contribution to current discourse. 

In this episode, recorded on October 6th, Ghada Karmi and Antony Loewenstein sat down with our host, Eleanor Penny, to discuss the Israeli state’s military-industrial complex, its relationship with the global far right, and why a one-state solution is the closest approximation to a just conclusion for seventy-five years of occupation. Having been recorded prior to the events that have followed since October 7th, please listen in the awareness that some of the language in the episode may not be reflective of the detailed situation that has developed over the last two weeks.
