This is Chapter 5 of our Elvenland saga. We Hope you enjoy :)

As Raewyn ventures along the dark tunnel towards the Portal, she seems to hear whispered warnings echoing around her. Despite her trepidation, she slowly enters, but not before calling on the Ancient Ones to guide her through.

Inside the entrance she encounters the evil & terrifying Tresur Heldros, The Master of the Abyss and, as he speaks, she can hear the wails and laments of tortured souls who ventured there before her.

However, Raewyn's Elven faith is unconquerable, and, as she bravely prepares to meet whatever fate awaits her, she remembers her ancient teachings.

Chained in a cave by the abyss, she patiently waits....

Who knows to what extent the Church forbade composers to use this interval. According to musicologist Anthony Pryer, the tritone "...was recognized as a problem in music as early as the 9th century [and] as a natural consequence, and so they banned it [and] had rules to get around it. I don't think it was ever considered the devil residing in music".

Why is the tritone considered evil?
In the typical story about the tritone, many people believed that this interval had such an unpleasant sound that the people of the Middle Ages considered the tritone to be "the devil's work."

As we have already noted, we rarely hear the tritone as an independent interval. However, as with everything in music theory, there are many counterexamples. One such example of the devil's tritone can be found in the Black Sabbath classic " Black Sabbath ".

Listening to it, one might think that this is exactly what the church wanted to ban centuries ago!

The tritone interval is contained in every dominant seventh chord. The tritone interval gives the dominant seventh chord such a strong resolution to the I chord in a chord progression.
