Composers feel a pang when a new piece forms in their minds. A sort of 'hunger' forms, to make a particular piece. And once that piece has been made, the 'pang' disappears. And the piece, once made, is completely forgotten. For a new pang immediately replaces it. And so it goes.

Carefully curated auto-biographies on Soundcloud, intended to make their author feel important (or iterating the extent to which they are prepared to make fun of themselves) are fine. For my part, I have precisely zero interest in the question 'who am I?'. The only such question which interests me, is 'what am I?'

And for that matter, 'what is music?'.

Why are we endlessly fascinated (and occasionally enchanted) by acoustic patterns? Why is music so important to us?

Should it be?

By this point, you may be saying to yourself, please stop asking silly questions and get on with posting a vanilla flavoured auto-biography, like everyone else.

'Biographies' on Soundcloud generally take the form of:

1. Heavily curated auto-hagiographies (the most amusing of which are written in the third person, to offer the impression they were written by an adoring third party) or
2. Occasionally amusing attempts at self-satire (intended to show the extent to which we can make fun of ourselves). A gold star and a biscuit should be awarded for the latter, not the former.

However, none of this really matters. It does not matter 'who' I am (or who I think I am, or who I would like you to think I am).

The question which matters is 'what am I?'. And what are you? (not who you are, or who you claim to be, or who you would like people to think you are). Lets just say that I am an angel of a human being (so far as you know).

What if anything does being a composer mean?

What is it, that is in our nature, which drives us to compose music?

Why do we make music? Why should we make music? 

What effect does music have on our minds? And most importantly, why does music have these effects upon us?

My favourite pianist (by a considerable margin) is Murray Perahia.

As for the Kendrick/Drake debate, Kendrick...obviously.
