When we began with our first co-op in 2002 we founded it on a core ethos - that our philosophy would always be about promoting music at a grass roots level. Today our continued commitment to independent music and unsigned artists is reflected in everything we do at U&I. From those modest beginnings we have now grown into Unsigned And Independent and work exclusively with an international network of 95 co-ops in 49 countries. 

What we are now doing through U&I Radio is promoting more artists and their music to those who appreciate what good music is all about. 
This extensive network we have recommends a rich diversity of quality music on a continuous basis and we now dedicate these recommendations into playlists as part of the concept that U&I stands for. This is the latest U&I Radio playlist and features 10 artists recommended to us through our co-op network.

Our Time / tribute / feat Tony Bluestone

This track was inspired by reading Deep Blues: A Musical and Cultural History of the Mississippi Delta by Robert Palmer (no, not that one). I was deeply moved by the struggle that forced young sharecroppers to skip out on unfair debt, at risk of prosecution, to seek better work conditions in the north - particularly Chicago. Anyone with musical skills, like Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon, found a ready and willing audience for their unique, emergent blues style of music, which gave them an alternative form of income to factory work - the usual fate for such migrants. 

This version of the song has no drums and a very simple baseline. A more rock version will probably appear on my next album due in the fall of 2015.

15 Dreams

I was glad to contribute some guitar parts to this summer confection from Marcus and Martin of Splintered Finger @fraudstein.

For those keeping track at home, Splintered Finger created the basic tracks as an open collaboration. I added that melodic 70's-style rhythm guitar part as well as a spacey guitar pad. The first solo is also me. The second solo comes courtesy of the always distinctive and ever rippin' Martin Reed @its-tophonicus. Then Jörg @joerxworx brings his smooth and sexy alto (you can hear more of that horn here: https://soundcloud.com/joerxworx/sax-on-sunrise-redemption-by-splintered-finger) Finally Martin picks it up again and takes it all the way home and beyond. Martin also edited and mixed. 

This track kept me good company recently on a particularly salty week away from work. I'll keep it posted until the end of summer, or whenever summer ends for me, anyway.

My cover of the brilliant Anda Volley track, If I Turn Into A Black Rose, that I have loved from the moment I heard it. There's a poet at her core that reaches out to be heard. This song is also drenched in so much emotion, my heart was begging to sing it.
