PREMIERE: Cosmonection & Herson - Purple Road

The Argentinian producer, jazz ever-learning enthusiast and musician Salvador Poletti is the one behind this 11th release in this section of single tracks. Editing nothing less than the arguably one of the best-known Brazilian musicians: Sérgio Mendes — a pianist, producer, songwriter who folded Brazilian rhythms and language into American jazz and folk, Salvador metabolizes the richness and beauty of Sérgio's track 'What Is This?'. Fresh and singular, intelligently rearranged, as efficient as it gets.

As Frankie sang, 'and now, the end is near', which is certainly the case for our long standing Trash The Wax compilation series.

Over the years, it has released some absolute dance floor smashers by established names in the art of bangers as well as emerging music makers showcasing their fresh sounds.

Initially, we wanted to establish Trash The Wax outside of the 'kick-hat-snare stuck over a Sister Sledge sample' style edits that were dropping weekly. The result was a collection of cuts aimed at the dance floor which would also appeal to fans of electronic music. But all things come to an end, and with this 10th release, we are finishing on a high.

As expected there are disco ticklers aplenty from renowned party people such as Late Nite Tuff Guy, Ed Wizard, Bill Brewster, Pablo & Shoey, Danny Russell & Ronald Christoph and Yam Who.

Tracks such as Leon Sweet's Sunny Bigler made their way into the record boxes of the likes of Luke Unabomber, Maurice Fulton and Chris Duckenfield as well as the airwaves of 6Music. Deckard's rework of the theme from 'The Warriors' created scenes at ALFOS in Glasgow with Sean Johnston saying 'I've never seen as many shirtless middle age blokes go as mental as they did when that dropped!'

On a more twisted gutter style disco tip, there is Richard Seaborne's ' Is This Acid?' which topped the Paper best ever sellers on Beatport for months, Richard Norris's 'Glow' is textbook space disco, the low slung sludge of James Rod & Aleito's 'Raum 909' and the Speak & Spell narrated Acidisco by Andy Buchan.

There are also two brand new cuts from TTW family members Boblebad & D.S.D. plus more killer music than we can shake a disco stick at. Never has the phrase 'all hitters and no shitters' been more apt.

Hello, we are Big Mess.
Over the past several months, we have been constantly working on our EP, which is the audio you are hopefully listening to right now. It has been an interesting journey and has served as a significant life experience to produce this album together. When we first started recording the songs for this EP, we were not aware of what was going to happen down the line. In the first few months, we were just hanging out and making music with different people at different times. But thanks to the way Maastricht is wonderfully built, we ended up being able to spend even more time together whenever we didn't have other things to do.
Some of the most complicated challenges that arose took place in the realm of subjectivity. Perhaps this album would have been released even sooner if it weren't for the "noise" we created for ourselves during this entire process. I don't mean to talk negatively about this noise, because it is certainly something we might carry alongside us for our entire lives. In that sense, I think it's important to mention it in a whole paragraph—or even dedicate a whole one to it—because it served as one of the most important teachers during this time span.
This EP would also not have been possible without the help of some wonderful people. Which are: Arturo Ramirez Hintze, Abhig Ya, Aga, Henri Schappert and Dimitris Terpizis.
Now that the EP has come to an end—at least the recording part—we are excited to see what other forms music will take in our lives, and hopefully within this group as well. Perhaps it is not well-received if one speaks about closure at this point, but from the start, when we were experimenting with different sounds, there was already no need for it.
And that is how we continue. We continue by making music however we can; we continue by maybe not continuing to make music; we continue, and we just trust music.

CRAZY RACE (The RH factor) - LIVE

The debut release for Ed Mahon (on Edit Records) has received a great amount of love and air play from esteemed DJs all over the world (see feedback link below).
Ed was warming up for Graeme Park one night on the decks and gave his new tune its first airing, not knowing what the reaction would be. Once hundreds of hands raised in the air he knew it was a success and before he knew it the good people at Edit Records were releasing it and Graeme was featuring it on his very successful weekly podcast!

Ed took the sound of a forgotten Hacienda classic and brought it up to date, it was a collaborative effort involving the studio skills of Blackpool’s Studio 3, the piano talent of house legend Davos, a timeless vocal from the late Kevin Irving (RIP Kirv), and the mastering skills of Cotton Bud’s Rich Lane to top it off nicely!

XOA, led by London based producer and musician Nick Tyson, is set to release debut album ‘Way West’ on 14th June via Five Easy Pieces.

XOA means to look outwards; to draw inspiration from many sources. ‘Way West’ is alive with this: steeped in the rich analogue sonics of the past, the warmth of machines and influence from the sounds of London’s fervent music scene. Featuring a blend of contemporary electronic production and live instrumentation, 70s Afrobeat inspired drums and cosmic melodies are thrust into the present day with strong cues from house and techno.

Three vocalists contribute across the album, with Tyson choosing to work with singers he has a personal admiration and friendship with. Hollie Cook, known to many for her ethereal pop tinged reggae, delivers a sumptuous contribution on ‘Heartland’, adding a beautiful emotional dimension to the horn led track. Lulu Jones’ vocals are treated more as a sample for the garage tinged ‘Call On Me’ and Ruby Wood, of Submotion Orchestra, has worked with Tyson over a number of projects and their shared love of 90s soul comes to the fore on the laid back grooves and sun kissed ‘Only One Thing’. 

“When collaborating, especially with vocalists on melodic and lyrical ideas, it’s important to have that personal connection and respect for each other’s craft. That’s why I never ask vocalists to prepare anything in advance for the tracks, I like to get in the room and just see what happens in the moment, to trust each other’s ideas, and for it to be a natural, organic and spontaneous process”.

Collaboration has always been at the heart of the project for Tyson. He plays the bulk of the instruments on the album but invites Marijus Aleksa on drums to provide live energy, extra synth work from Parisian Kenzo Zurzolo, and a notable Rhodes solo from Johnny Tomlinson (a member of Bonobo’s live band) on ‘Osu’.

After well received releases on Soundway Records, Cin Cin (with Wayward) and Banana Hill (with Contours); ‘Way West’ shows another step up for Tyson as a writer and producer. 

“It feels like this project is coming alive for me, the music I envisaged in my mind a few years ago is being realised, and I’m proud of how it sounds”.

‘Way West’ is set to be released on 14th June 2019 via London based label Five Easy Pieces (Mo Kolours, Reginald Omas Mamode IV, Natureboy Flako, Royalty, Call Super) on vinyl LP and digital formats.
