This is track eleven from the acoustic cd 'tHE tERRIBLE tRUTH' it is an alternate version of the song, the video that accompanies this track is a slight hybrid off the two. It features Casey Govero from 'Kharma' and 'Cronus' on the video and the audio and also on backing vox is Donna Z. on the audio track.  The alternate version is performed in a different key than the original version, the live video is performed in the key of the original version.

Lyrics are the same as track six, the only difference is that the phrase "Spirit Is The Truth" is inserted in the chorus and increases slightly in volume each chorus.

I'm an unsigned songwriter, working mostly solo but periodically with other musicians. This track was all recorded and mixed on an AKAIDPS16 a long while back and I'd like to update. All music and lyrics are original and were written and performed by me. Guitars, bass all straight into the unit and using DPS16s onboard effects (with exception of lead guitar at end where I went through an old Roland GP16). Vocals recorded on an inexpensive mic whose brand I can't recall.  This was my first recording on the DPS16 built up in layers. I wanted to achieve a great sounding track. A friend ran it through Wavelab to increase the overall volume etc, otherwise its pretty raw and untreated.

A total of 13 tracks were recorded live over 2 days with 2 days post production for mixing &amp; mastering; there were no overdubs/punch-ins etc. Drums and Bass were tracked in the live room with Sax, Guitar and Piano (DI outs) in the adjoining room.

The aim was to capture the live vibe of the band with no overdubs/editing or moving files about.

Piano – DI’d via DBX 112 Active DI boxes
Bass – Double bass DI’d and put through a Universal Audio Solo 610 vale pre amp, bass amp mic’ed up with a SE Electronics 5600a II
Drums – Drum Woorkshop Collectors 10,12,14 toms FAST Sizes, 22x18 bass drum, Ludwig vintage 402 supraphonic snare.
Bass Drum - AKD D112 internal, Shure Beta 52a out front
Snare – SM57 top and bottom
Hats – Neumann KM184
Toms – Sennheiser e604
Overheads – AKG 414B-XLS
Preamps - RME OctaMicII
The session was recorded and mixed in Logic Pro 9 and mastered using TC Electronics System 6000 MD3 software.

Mandelbrot Drummer is a plug-in for computer musicians who want to experiment with drum patterns to find interesting rhythms for their music. It is based around a simple idea. Groups of drum hits are placed across an image of a Mandelbrot fractal. The MIDI velocity of each hit is related to the color intensity of the underlying fractal. The variation in color intensity (i.e. velocity) across the fractal imparts subtle and unexpected rhythms which can mimic a human drummer.

When working on a music project it can be frustrating and unproductive to trawl through hundreds of drum clips looking for something with the right feel. Many musicians find that constructing patterns from scratch in a piano roll editor is a difficult task. Based around a simple concept, Mandelbrot Drummer is an alternative way to make rhythm patterns and is designed to be a practical tool for computer musicians.
