Ever since I heard this brilliant piece of music, its been on non-stop replay in my mind.The combination of lead vocals and instruments are brilliant. Top class talent that resulted in a remarkable work of spellbinding creative fusion.

Swaminatha Paripalaya is a Sanskrit Carnatic Classical 'Kriti' originally composed by Muthuswamy Dikshitar in raga Nattai (Adi Tala).  In this alternative version, the band has applied a funky guitar patch throughout with western drums while combining Indian elements such as the mridangam and flute. Check it out...a must listen for Carnatic fusion lovers.

Swaminatha Paripalaya - Carnatic Fusion - Haricharan with Bennet & the Band (Unplugged)

My first proper music video, (Link to Video : http://youtu.be/QPT3uup_pOU), I have had the amazing opportunity to work with the Nightingale of California, Meera Manohar in a re-arragment of the song by Ouseppachan, Andhi Maalai.


The tune of the song is heavily derived from the famous kriti of Saint Thyagaraja, 'Endaro Mahanubhavulu'. Meera and I both love this Thyagaraja swamy krithi and so decided that as our first project, we will do a re-arrangement of the Andhi Maalai song. :-D

The original album was released under A R Rahman's name although he had played only as a keyboardist*. The vocals were by S Janaki in the original version with lyrics by Vairamuthu

Andhi Maalai - A Re-arrangement featuring Meera Manohar

Mid-Air started off as a random tune in raga Harikambodhi in my head while on a flight from Auckland to Queenstown during my honeymoon. I recorded this tune onto my iphone and sent to the band. When we met a month later in Chennai, the song started to take shape. The song features an interesting interchange between the guitar and violin supported by a powerful groove reminiscent of a 60s or 70s classic rock song with a carnatic twist!

This piece is performed by 2016 IndianRaga Fellows Vinod Krishnan, Apoorvaa Deshpande, Santosh Baynes, Shankar Iyer, Chethan Anant and Karthik Ramasubramanian.
