Fasten your rift rider seatbelts friends, because now we're headed to a much darker and epic orchestral cover future. This is the first of the Jak 2 orchestra covers I am making.

This track posed a special challenge - there are a lot of similarities between the first and second game's soundtracks (those percussion instruments, man), but Jak 2's soundtrack's tone is very different. Makes sense, given the cyberpunk dystopian setting and Jak's new fondness for swearing and guns :D . So I had to shift my focus to a darker, more epic sound for it, whereas the tracks I covered from the first game were more peaceful or whimsical.

I have about four more songs in mind to cover from Jak 2's soundtrack - please look forward to them!

Jak 2 Main Theme - Jak and Daxter Rescored VOL. 2: Track 1 - ManeJayne Game Orchestra

Last night's SMD listeners wanted it, so here we go - a full symphonic medley of tunes from the second game in the Jak and Daxter series!

(and then it goes back to a variation of Haven City for the reprise).

When I got started on Youtube, I often uploaded symphonic covers of games I personally enjoyed, getting inspired by the wonderful arrangements done for Video Games Live.  The only issue is, I grew to dislike them more over time because it's not at all a style strong enough to put me on the map AND the sound patches I had came from my PSR keyboard - not at all ideal!

However, when looking back over my old arrangements, the Jak II medley that I uploaded on YT back in 2008-ish stood out mostly due to the little expansions I ended up giving to it, not to mention it felt as if we were telling a story from Jak's 2-year imprisonment through to the final resolution of the city's conflicts.

And then came the last bit of inspiration - April Fool's Day happening on a Friday this year.  I wanted to fit in some Jak within the PlayStation-themed setlist I had on that week's SEGA Mixer Drive (briefly re-named DONNIE Mixer Drive for that day) and over the space of a few days, I finally took the old MIDI project file and re-built the 'synthetic orchestra' from the ground up.  And that's what we got!

So yeah.  Happy belated April Fool's Day, and enjoy the arrangement again! x)
