What kind of drums are you using for this track? Also, what software is this?

Last night's SMD listeners wanted it, so here we go - a full symphonic medley of tunes from the second game in the Jak and Daxter series!

- Haven City Walking
- Baron Praxis's Palace
- Dragons of Haven Forest
- Strip Mine
- Final Boss
(and then it goes back to a variation of Haven City for the reprise).

When I got started on Youtube, I often uploaded symphonic covers of games I personally enjoyed, getting inspired by the wonderful arrangements done for Video Games Live.  The only issue is, I grew to dislike them more over time because it's not at all a style strong enough to put me on the map AND the sound patches I had came from my PSR keyboard - not at all ideal!

However, when looking back over my old arrangements, the Jak II medley that I uploaded on YT back in 2008-ish stood out mostly due to the little expansions I ended up giving to it, not to mention it felt as if we were telling a story from Jak's 2-year imprisonment through to the final resolution of the city's conflicts.

And then came the last bit of inspiration - April Fool's Day happening on a Friday this year.  I wanted to fit in some Jak within the PlayStation-themed setlist I had on that week's SEGA Mixer Drive (briefly re-named DONNIE Mixer Drive for that day) and over the space of a few days, I finally took the old MIDI project file and re-built the 'synthetic orchestra' from the ground up.  And that's what we got!

So yeah.  Happy belated April Fool's Day, and enjoy the arrangement again! x)

Snowy Mountain Edited Root Keys - Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy

NOTE: This song is a fan remake of the original track by Josh Mancell for the Naughty Dog game, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. I claim no credit for the original composition (also, be sure to check out Josh's page here on Soundcloud - he has tons of pre-console mixes of the soundtracks!).

The first in my Rescored series and the first of the Jak and Daxter tracks I intend to remake. This one was a blast to make! 

What's neat about how Josh Mancell scored the Jak games is that he made the music contextual; certain layers of instruments would only play if you were doing certain things or by certain people, something I attempted to retain in this version.

Perhaps - if you listen closely - you'll hear the same marimba that plays by Samos' hut and Keira's workshop, the tuba of the Mayor, the flute of the Bird Lady, or the shamisen of the Farmer.

There are other instruments for other villagers in here as well, all playing along as Sandover wakes up and gets to work. Of course, none of them are working as hard as Jak and Daxter as they run around and collect Precursor Orbs. Especially Daxter. ;)
