Have you heard the story of the Phoenix? The mythical bird that builds a nest and ignites itself into flames, then rises from its ashes stronger than before? This is the journey Mangs Sublime speaks about in his music series appropriately titled “Phoenix SZN” and it all starts with a light.

In “Light,” the 1st song of the series, Mangs Sublime and singer/songwriter Aklil confront issues of living one’s truth and owning it. The opening lyrics “Shine so bright in the middle of the night/ can’t forget about the night/ ain’t no light without the darkness” pretty much sum up it up. “Light” is about realizing your flaws, accepting your own darkness and coming to terms with your own shortcomings, as well as accepting those of others. The only way to shine your light is to embrace your individuality, and accept your insecurities and your flaws because, as the song says, “Your pain is your beauty, your scars may be ugly but they are yours truly.”

As much as Mangs Sublime speaks to a significant other, telling them to open up and shine their light, this song serves as a prelude to the rest of Phoenix SZN 1 in which he confronts his own demons and shines a light on his own insecurities, feelings (or lack thereof) and actions that led him into a slightly depression. Light was made to tell people that it’s okay to be who they are, unapologetically.

Episode 2: Numb (ft. Silé)

In "Numb" Mangs Sublime digs deep into the feeling of numbness by painting a picture of what not giving a fuck feels like when it gets too deep. "Numb" is a representation of the fun that goes into chasing various women and doing various substances, but ultimately it turns dark when the thrill is gone.
Mangs Sublime opens up about substance abuse and a general lack of feelings in what would be considered "a banger"

In this episode, Mangs Sublime teams up with singer/songwriter KB to tell a story about insecurity. This song illustrates some of the results of a toxic relationship that involves a victim and a saver, one who wants to control and one who doesn't know what they want. 
Mangs Sublime tells various personal stories about how insecurity from both himself and the other person resulted in failed relationships and near-death situations

Ep. 4 - ICE (ft. FrankMiino)

Episode 4 is the "fuck love" stage where no one makes you feel what you once did and as a result you start attracting the opposite of what you want.

ICE is a compilation of meaningless "love affairs" that ultimately came to be because of a lack of confidence after a series of bad relationships. ICE represents the heart of a man when he decides it is time to get back to his playa self.
