This 'Song' was actually a longer recording for an Instagram video, but listening to it again, I thought it was an interesting jam. Interesting enough for a Soundcloud upload :) Every sound was made live and improvised while jamming with the modular synth.

Up next on Arcing Seas is Magna Pia with his second EP after his 2016 debut “Incantations” on Counterchange. Behind the alias is Hüseyin Evirgen, one half of Cassegrain.

ARCS-05 has a clear focus of providing combative dance floor trips, unorthodox sonic moods with subtle 90s techno references. The EP’s track titles “Artemisia”, “Semiramis” and “Akasha” pay tribute to three mighty ancient heroines of very different origins. Consequently, Magna Pia continues his interest in combining techno tracks with archaic symbolism.

Sombra, the Lisbon label founded by Shcuro and Peterr, is back with a fourth release to celebrate their fourth anniversary. This time, their sombre and atmospheric vision of techno finds expression through the work of 12 artists, from promising newcomers to established heroes, in a compilation called "4 ANOS", available in tape and digital formats.

Side A opens with label co-founder Peterr on a sparse, sonic slow techno work-out, followed by a breakbeat-tinged atmospheric cut by british talent Positive Centre and a detailed, deconstructed dancefloor-ready piece by Chimess. Young Lisbon producer Prec steps in with a tense, kick-furious roller while another local beatsmith, VIL, delivers an aqueous, percussive stunner and label regular Larix comes up with an ever-evolving broken techno riddim.

Lisbon's Enkö inaugurates side B by raising the intensity bar with a percussion-heavy hypnotic flex, followed by UK legend Paul Mac who hands in an insanely imaginative acid cut punctuated with a dense drone and cutting-edge drum patterns. Label repetent Damaskin is up next with a industrial-noise arpeggiated exercise that manages to take tension levels to extreme heights right before label co-founder Shcuro's peak-time dub-soaked techno seems to create a moment of euphoric dissociation. Buttons' resident Madalba brings all her Berlin knowledge to the table fusing rave intuition with drum innovation and blissful textures, with Cindy bringing a industrial and EBM inspired cut that taps into the soft spot between trippy and energetic to close this oneiric, techno-utopia of a compilation.

Surrounded by mountains, festivals and musician siblings, my childhood gave me a lot of inspiration. 

There is something about making electronic music, that fascinates me more than anything. The boundlessness, freedom to create whatever comes into mind strikes me as a blessing everytime i produce music. 

There´s a feeling of tapping in... into what? i ask myself sometimes. I guess i could call it a state of “now”, an alert, awake, state of mind, where i don’t think about the past, nor the future. I barely think at all. I just create whatever i feel like and what form it will take is unknown. 

As for DJing it’s always different from crowd to crowd. But i like to think of it as a way to make people open up, be free of fears and to let go. You can find so much energy in techno, and i love to lead people into a theme where they slowly can be drawn into that energy. It’s kind of a healing feeling actually. For me music is a free, open playground, where feelings will rise. If something gives me goosebumps, i know i’m touching the right spot.

Since several months I’ve lived in a district called “Västberga” in Stockholm which is most known as an industrial area where epic raves have been hosted throughout the years. Its surroundings have inspired me to make this album. You can feel the monotone mechanical manufactory pulse here since there’s almost only corporations located at this area. As i walk around here daytime, it’s full of big trucks, engine like electric sounds, old railways and trains, while during night its more quiet and atmospheric. 

Through sounds i want to dive into the very abstract feeling of reiterations that i also could feel during my visit in Seoul. The pulse, the people, the traffic, the machines, the clubs. The tempels, The high mountains in the far. Sometimes i loved it there and totally forgot myself.

그 어떠한 것보다도 전자음악속에는 나를 끌어당기는 “무엇인가” 가 있다. 마음에 떠오르는 어떠한 것도 음악으로 실현될 수 있다는 전자음악의 “자유성” 과 “무경계성” 은 내가 곡을 매번 만들어 낼 때마다 축복과 같이 느껴진다.

전자음악속 “무엇인가” 다가오는 느낌. 이것이 무엇인지는 내 스스로에게도 가끔 자문하곤하는데, 이는 “현재” 상태라 할 수 있을 것이다. 일종의 현시적 알람 혹은 깨어나게 하는 것 –“현재”. “현재” 속에서 나는 미래와 과거에 대해 생각하지 않는다. 내가 느끼는 것을 온전히 만들어낼 뿐이며, 이는 “미지” 의 형태를 취하게 된다.

디제잉은 관객의 영향을 많이 받는다. 그러나 나에게 있어 디제잉이란 사람의 마음을 열어 내는 행위이다. 궁극적으로 공포로부터 그들을 자유로이 해방시켜주는, 여러분은 테크노의 넘치는 에너지를 느껴 보았을 것이다. 사람들을 이 열정적인 에너지로 서서히 빠져 들게 하는 것은 내가 좋아 하는 디제잉의 과정이기도 하다. 내게 치유적이기 까지한 이 활동. “음악”이란 내게 다채로운 감정들이 자유로이 뿜어져 나오는 놀이터와 같다. 무엇을 만졌을때 아찔한 전율을 느낀적이 있다면, 그것이 옳은 것임을 우리는 알고 있지 않은가.

몇달전부터 나는 스톡홀롬의 “Västberga” 라 불리우는 지역에 살고 있다. 몇년 전부터 산업 도시로 알려진 이곳. 이번 앨범 제작에 있어 이 도시의 환경은 내게 많은 영감을 주었다. 트랙속에서, 기업체 건물로 점차 뒤덮여가고 있는 도시가 전하는, 무채색의 기계적 리듬을 느껴볼 수 있을 것이다. 이곳에서 낮시간에 거리를 걷고 있자면, 큰 화물 트럭, 전자음 같은 엔진 소리, 낡은 철길과 기차들을 마주해볼 수 있다. 반면 도시의 밤은 고요하며 제법 운치 있기까지 하다.

트랙의 사운드를 통해서, 반복적으로 느껴왔던 추상적 감정들을 표현해 내고자 하였다. 이는 내가 서울을 방문 했을때 에도 느꼈던 감정들이다. 두근거림, 사람들, 기계들, 교통 체증, 클럽, 절, 저멀리 어렴풋이 보이던 높게 솟은 산들. 서울에 너무 매료 되었던 나머지, 내 자신조차 잊어버렸던 그때를 떠올리며...

"Oblique is proud to present it's second Various Artists EP by friends we have met years ago online.

Before we had our first releases, we would upload our music to Soundcloud and these guys were always on my radar to check instantly. Besides inspiring me, their comments and feedback were invaluable to my growth as a producer. 

Fast-forward a few years and everyone has grown in their own way, with multiple releases, labels and parties to emerge. The platforms have changed, but the connection did not, hence the idea to reunite them on wax :)

The EP shows four different takes on hypnotic techno, starting with the driving and slowly morphing "Radiate" from Kaelan, followed by the intense mindbender "The Nomad" from Antonio Vázquez. 
On the flipside we go more atmospheric with Refracted showcasing his expert sound manipulation on "Uku Che". Ending the EP is the subtlely layered and ultra deep "Ditoan" from Alan Backdrop."

Sagan's Implication is an adroit homage to the legendary astrophysicist; leaning into melodics that are both marvelous and mysterious all at once -- similar to finding the answers that lie above us. All in all, a journey that begins by looking past what's diegetic and looking for answers past the narrative presented.

Junodownload Review:  Mode_1 is best known for his DJ sets at the recently shuttered District 8 club in Dublin. He now takes the expertise that he built up spinning in that venue and applies it to his dance floor productions. "Shifted" kick starts the release in high-paced mode with an eerie rhythm track swooping in to the sound of furious claps. "Satellites" is more reserved but similar in mood, as resonating, tonal bleeps unfold over staccato drums. On "Final Approach", he ups the intensity levels again, with a pounding kick underpinning bleak tones, while closing out this debut EP is the slightly deeper but still forceful tech-house of "Lasting Thought".

In 1990, Frankie Bones opened “Groove Records,” a techno outpost deep in Brooklyn. Adam X soon became a co-owner and by 1995 the shop was relocated to Manhattan, with Heather Heart rounding out the trio. The new shop was called “Sonic Groove” and it quickly became ground zero for techno in New York City. There was nothing like it in the area at the time or, arguably, anywhere in America.

Sonic Groove was 110% dedicated to techno, a genre that was just past its infancy and exploding worldwide. A community emerged around the shop and thus the label was spawned.

Adam X had an agenda from the very beginning as label curator (and eventually sole owner): to release some of the most forward thinking underground techno music around. Realizing that goal was no easy feat, considering the volume of records being released at the time in a fast-paced and growing scene.

Fast-forward 25 years. Adam X and Sonic Groove are still at the forefront of modern underground techno, sticking to the same ethos and pushing the envelope further into the future. The faces and sounds may have changed, but the label has kept true to the vision. In an era now dominated by image, style, and trivial content, Sonic Groove continues its mission of putting the music first and foremost.

Now in celebration of 25 years, Sonic Groove releases a muscular 12 song compilation of  previously unreleased music comprised from the label's current artist roster.  A testament to techno's ever evolving sound and serves as a modern document showcasing the path Sonic Groove has taken and where it has led to, proving that as time passes, there is still room for creativity and innovation in the genre as demonstrated throughout these 12 tracks.
