I was so incredibly nervous about this; doing "emotionally charged" music on cue was something that I felt was way out of my comfort zone, and I wasn't sure if I was up to the task - I especially struggled with the first part, which I felt was the most important. In the end, I think that fear permeated the music itself, and I was able to draw on experiences I lived through or witnessed to deliver this, turning all of how and what I felt like into what ultimately became the song.
Influence-wise, I decided early on that I wanted to take the minimalism of Vector Lovers and somehow merge it with the soaring energy of post-rock (like 65daysofstatic), with the mid-section being heavily influenced by - oddly - Nine Inch Nails, The Lion King and Shadow Gallery. If none of this makes sense to you, I can assure you that it didn't make sense to me either until the track started taking shape, but I somehow instinctively knew where to look when I needed certain elements.
In the end, I think the music ultimately ended up carrying a lot of the intro on its back, and it might eventually become one of the favorite pieces of music I ever did.

Through My Veins

Preview of the remake of the Highscore tune for the Commodore 64 videogame "Hawkeye" for the upcoming album "Tel Me More".

Composed in 1986 at age 14 and published by Thalamus in 1987. The game was developed by my friends the Boys Without Brains (BWB).

This was always one of my personal favorites and I felt it was the most accomplished short tune I composed for a C64 game.

I got reminded to remake this tune a lot in the many years passing since. When my friend and producer of many years, Joe Bonar, reminded me of it recently, I decided to drop working on all the other songs for a while and work on this one non-stop.
