The Remixes collection is a full-length re-imagination of "A Color Map of the Sun." Derek Vincent Smith – aka Pretty Lights – invited producers from a wide stylistic spectrum to remix the tracks from his latest album. Derek produced "A Color Map of the Sun" with no intention of having it be an album of dance floor bangers, but rather a collection of music that can be enjoyed anyplace, anytime, all the time.

These 'Remixes' are other artists’ interpretations of his compositions and self made vinyl samples. The tracks are mostly intended to be hard hitting, but they are also just very different. See the track list below for all artists involved in the Pretty Lights’ "A Color Map of the Sun Remixes."

This the result of 2 sessions at a writerscamp; The Voyagers worked with Haris to get the nice break with amazing vocals. And I worked with The Voyagers on the catchy groovy drop. Really happy with this track, the drop melody might be the one of the most catchy melody's I ever wrote and I love the fresh input by The Voyagers. Backstory:  This song features Steve Swatkins (Allen Stone) on talkbox as well as A. J. Hall (Jon Cleary, The Grid) on the drums. I originally sent Swatkins the track with just midi-drums and he laced it with the wicked talkbox... this was probably almost two years ago. Then, I met A.J. Hall at the beginning of this year - He's actually the first drummer to play a show with The Russ Liquid Test. We recorded the drums this past spring at our new studio in New Orleans, "Neutral Sound Studio".

Los Angeles based Jordan Hill a.k.a no puls has been slowly amassing an impressive catalogue of tribal inspired, future-facing compositions heavily rooted in the ‘beat-scene’ provenance his home town & its famed ambassadors have immortalised. Alongside his two presciently named pitbulls Onyx & Quasimoto, Jordan - originally of Orange County - is a resident of the Highland Park area of L.A; a vibrant nerve-centre of instrumental hip-hop talent including members of Low-end Theory organisation Team Supreme and the Courteous family collective - the latter of which no puls has been a long-standing member of.

In a naturally Californian fashion, his music is the coming together of psychedelic cosmic leanings, stoned grooves & high technology. Much like other members of the Courteous Family, no puls harnesses a distinctively low-fi crunchiness to his music worthy of a comparison to the Toe Rag Studios aesthetic. It’s analog futurism cut from the same cloth as Danger Mouse & Madlib, tailored to fit the post-dubstep landscape.

In this inaugural outing beyond the Bandcamp / Free-to-DL paradigm, an incredible command of both patience & maturity is displayed. In an era of west-coast beat making often characterised by restless technical one-up-manship and bold lurches from one concept to the next, no puls is able to cut through the orthodoxy and channel his efforts into ear worm-orientated structures that develop with restraint yet still glow with technical flair.

“Tongues” E.P drops on 9th March Featuring 4 original compositions, and a guest appearance from Slugabed on the 5th track with his remix of “Fiji Quija”.
