Mahûr is one of the seven Dastgāhs (roughly translated to Modes) of Persian Classical Music. This piece begins with a Darâmad (Intro) and continues into an improvisation.

This is my adaptation of a piece featuring maestro Mohammad Reza Shajarian on vocals, that appears on his album titled "Ghoghaye Eshghbazan". That album, and that piece specifically were the theme music to my first few months in the U.S. as an early-twenties International student, and has held a special place in my heart ever since. Eulogy for my uncle, Mohammad Goltinaty who recently passed. On a hot summer day some twenty five years ago, he came to my rescue, grabbed my desperate hand and saved my life, on the shores of the Caspian sea.

I owe him my life. He is dearly missed. May his soul rest in peace.
